The coach and the team have quit

I am ready for the GW game. Man that was such a great game. We totally competed and play so well. See everyone at the Tavern tonight!!! Drinks paid by Mooney.

Oh my!! Like many of you, I was watching this one saying where is the damn fire? Competitiveness, pride, I didn't see any. Agree completely that Mooney and those on the floor looked numb and shell shocked. I don't think it too far to say that they QUIT. Fire Mooney now (which isn't going to happen)!

If he had any dignity he would resign tonight. what an embarrassment. His time has come and gone. No energy, no fire, no desire, no leadership. If Hale, Hardt or the Prez had a pair, they would be changing the locks in the robins center tonight

Mooney’s postgame was predictable Mooney. Now Beckwith trying to tell people that the players are to blame more than the coaches.

Beck has been around forever working with Bob Black. Great player but indoctrinated in the ways of Mooney. But tomorrow we need to lock out Mooney, Jones, hovde, Bob Black, Matt Smith and start over.

“I don’t think anything would change in terms of how we approach each coming game, or each individual game.

“It’s just a matter of us being ready, fresh, alert and things that I think we have been.”

Good to know the status quo is satisfactory.

Mooney the Tin Man. & why change its working so well.

I dunno I think hes a good fit
Serious question for you as a vcu fan? Do you guys somewhat fear what would happen if we got rid of Mooney because you know we might actually become a challenger? My guess would be no because y’all know that no matter who our coach is the attitude for the whole university is just to compete, not actually try to win anything.

All of us on this board (aside from the visitors) are passionate fans of Richmond basketball. We all care, probably to the point of it being detrimental given our awful yearly results. Yet we still invest our time, money, and emotion into this program. That's why it's so frustrating to watch our performance yesterday, where we got punched in the mouth and completely gave up - both players and coaches. These last 4 games will be very telling - if we go out and quit like we did last night, 0-4 is a very likely outcome

I’m trying to think of the last time CM showed any fire over a particularly bad loss. Obviously I recall the Charlotte meltdown in the A10 tournament, but I’m talking recently.

Does he just not care about these bad losses anymore? Read the room coach…

Well sure but I don’t think that precludes him from showing some passion. Unless he genuinely doesn’t have any. Which is possible.

Mooney has capitulated to himself. Think about that.

He knows he has no way to fix this.
While I somehow missed knowing this forum existed until last fall, I have been a loyal fan since school in the early to mid 90s … I get no pleasure in criticizing players or even Mooney and wasn’t supportive of the billboard approach … but believe after not succeeding with this talented class that somehow beat VCU twice four year ago ago, change must happen. He has tried and not succeeded. Time to let it go.

When CM mercifully finally departs UR, hopefully by April (I can see the press release now: "The University of Richmond and Chris Mooney, the winningest coach in school history, have mutually agreed that...") it will be mildly humorous to see where he eventually ends up. Clearly not a higher conference and doubtful even a lateral move based on his resume. Would Patriot or CAA even have an interest since they are typically more focused on up and comers? Pitino was damaged goods for other reasons but even with his pedigree had to go way down to the MAAC. Maybe Alma Mater Princeton to save face, but can't even see them being interested and at 18-5 they're not looking.

Richmond won't have another successful season until CM is gone. He's literally had talents such as Kendall Anthony, TJ Cline, Shawn Dre Jones, etc. He hasn't been to a tournament since 2011 if Richmond really cared about their program he would've been fired a long time ago.

He should coach offense as an assistant for a coach who knows how to coach.

Honestly hard to imagine you guys doing well next year no matter who coaches. Cupboard seems bare. Got any monster recruits coming in?
