The 804

Love it I think we need to get most of our players from the 804. There is a lot of talent and it will give us great community support and give us more fans. Jim Tressell did that at Youngstown State, the recruited almost everyone from the Youngstown area and they built a monster of an fcs program.

Yeah, we should start Chenault.
No suggesting that but there is a lot of talent in our local area and we should be getting most of our roster from our backyard. It starts with putting ourselves out there and building great relationships with local high school coaches and possibly bringing teams on campus and to game more. Maybe even host a few high school games at Robins stadium.

Excellent idea VT!!! We could have middle and high day at one or two of our football games as well.

That's how Tressell did it at Yiungstown State. Build up a great product on the field with mostly homegrown talent, give the community something to be proud of and others will follow and build to the success.

There used to be "RA Day" at City/UR stadium Sadly when the Baptists were tossed off campus, no more "RA Day".

What does "RA" stand for? Resident Advisor? Rheumatoid Awareness?
Seriously, I googled it and that is all I came up with.
And what do RAs have to do with Baptists being kicked off campus? When did this happen?

Our special use permit only allows us to use the stadium for so many non-sporting events. Have to be careful in how we utilize the stadium.
I understand that was all part of the agreement with the city to build the stadium but maybe it's time to revisit it. I haven't noticed insufferable damage and inconvenience to the surrounding neighborhoods.

Stoney is Richmonds new mayor and a JMU grad. Maybe if we agree to increase the size of our breadbox, we can get some concessions from him?!

None at all. Pretty sure all that property around the campus is overvalued due to its proximity to our school. Damn NIMBY's!!!

RA stands for "Royal Ambassador". It is a Baptist Church youth organization for young men. It was a life saver for me as a young boy.

RA stands for Royal Ambassadors. The RAs were boys between the ages of 10 and 16 in Baptist churches, Similar to The Boy Scouts. The GAs, a similar organization, for girls of the same age group in Baptist churches. The Baptists were kicked off the UR campus in November 1999. In my opinion, a sad dark day in the history of UR,

Royal Ambassadors is youth boys service organization in Baptist church. UR use to have
a recognition day at football and actually had track meet at Old Pitt field where The Brickhouse is now.

our agreement with the City to allow the stadium on campus will not allow us to have the HS games you sugest

The idea of hosting a local football team at one of our games each year is an excellent one.

Every player on the team would be considered a recruitable athlete, and ineligible for a complimentary ticket. So, unless they all buy their own ticket, they would be considered to be on an official recruiting visit, in which case we would use up the NCAA's maximum number of official visits in one afternoon.

True but I'm sure there is a way that we could help get these kids on campus for games. Putting ourselves out there is the best thing to do though. That means our coaches going to all the local games and maybe some of our players too. Use whatever we can to build the strongest relationship with all the local schools. We can use it to feed in talent every year to our program. That is my vision for how I would run the program.

I believe you could invite a team, there may be other considerations about why NOT to do so, here is the most recent version of the rule I could locate on a quick search:

Complimentary Admissions for a Prospect on an Unofficial Visit. An institution may provide a maximum of three complimentary admissions (issued through a pass list) to a campus athletics event in which the institution’s intercollegiate team practices or competes. Such complimentary admissions are for the exclusive use of the prospect on the visit, must be issued on an individual game basis, and may provide seating only in the general seating area of the facility utilized for conducting the event. Providing seating during the conduct of the event (including intermission) for the prospect or those accompanying the prospect in the facility’s press box, special seating box or bench area is specifically prohibited. (Bylaw 13.8.2.1)
Reserving Additional Tickets for an Unofficial Visit. An institution may not reserve tickets (in addition to the permissible complimentary admissions) to be purchased by a prospect (or individuals accompanying the prospect) on an unofficial visit. Tickets may be purchased only in the same manner as any other member of the general public. (Bylaw 13.8.2.1.4)
Visit Unrelated to Recruitment. The limitations on providing entertainment to a prospect shall not extend to a visit to the institution’s campus for a purpose having nothing whatsoever to do with the prospect’s athletics recruitment by the institution (e.g., band trip, fraternity weekend, athletic team’s attendance at a sporting event with their coach). The institution’s athletics department or representatives of its athletics interests may not be involved in any way with the arrangements for the visit, other than providing (in accordance with established policy) free admissions to an athletics event on a group basis, rather than personally to the prospect. (Bylaw 13.8.2.5)

Watching that play again, Johnson's arm strength is really amazing. That throw was 60 plus yards in the air, delivered right where it needed to be.
