Now that is funny. The silence leaving the stadium was a thing of beauty
I remember another game long ago that left the home team silenced. 1967 and the second season for Frank Jones. UR goes into Lexington. VMI had been having very good teams and Spiders were just a couple of years since having the longest loosing streak in the country. It was homecoming (like today) and VMI expected to have a easy time. I think the game was scoreless. VMI would march down the field, and Spiders would find a way to stop them. We had hard time moving the ball but Mike Bragg would flip the field on them. With time running out, Buster O'Brien started hitting Walker Gillette on sideline patterns. Bragg come on to kick a field goal. The silence was deafening exiting the stadium. Now that is funny.
This shoot out win was somewhat reminiscent of the historic 48-42 Tangerine Bowl win in 1968..,some of O'Brien and Gillette's records from that one may have been broken....I remember another game long ago that left the home team silenced. 1967 and the second season for Frank Jones. Every game the Spiders win, is a great game. But this is one of the great ones. JMU did bring in a formidable team. ESPN's Gameday show, hyped it a lot. JMU did seem to have an edge in everything but our offense. But our Defense and Special Teams did just enough, that our Offense was able to win it. What is our national ranking, Monday?
I was the spotter for the tv announcer at that game. I agree mo-jo, many similarities. This shoot out win was somewhat reminiscent of the historic 48-42 Tangerine Bowl win in 1968..,some of O'Brien and Gillette's records from that one may have been broken....
Go Spiders!
