So, watching Sweet 16, Gonzaga vs UCLA. No one is there! Reminds me of vcu vs Ohio state, no one in attendance. I am so happy with our exciting home games in the NIT. Great fans, great noise, great excitement. BTW, TrapCrap noted that there was no comparison between the New Robins Center and Cameron. Sorry Trap, but my Duke post doc said his experience at the UR vs vcu game surpassed any game he attended in his four years at Duke. Roll Spide!

NRG Stadium is a terrible place to play basketball. Sounds like only the parents showed up. Go Zags!!! MacSpider helped me get the correct location. I am watching to many channels at once. :)

have been to a few regionals, including last night's game at nrg and yes, the football stadiums the ncaa has moved into are pretty bad for basketball but they are attempting maximize the money and can sell you more seats, bottom line. it appeared that all the teams had trouble shooting in the barn. next year during the final four, the entire stadium will be opened up for about 80,000 seats instead of the much smaller number for the regional last evening. the toyota center where the rockets play seats about 23,000 and is a great basketball arena and where the regional should be played. unfortunately, the ncaa always wants a dry run in the venue where the final four will be played, thus nrg gets both the regional and the finals. would love to see them go back to both in larger basketball arenas rather than football venues though it does allow this old guy to purchase cheaper seats.

Agree 100% re the stadiums being terrible basketball venues. It's the ultimate money grab, at the expense of the fan experience. I don't know why anyone pays to watch basketball in those stadiums -- it's got to be absolutely awful. But obviously others (mostly corporations) disagree, as they keep buying, so the NCAA keeps selling.

Can't blame them, but it's sad.

you pay to go see them, even in poor venues because there is nothing like being there in person. remember vividly going to see ali fight in the super dome when living in new orleans. still the most electric environment have ever been in, hair on arms and neck standing straight up. that happened when ali came out of the dressing room and the ali chant began quietly and evolved into 70,000 fans on their feet chanting it. even though our seats were a mile from the ring, it was great to be there to feel it see it and have it in my memory bank.

I guess so, but I still hate it. Here's a screenshot from this weekend at NRG Stadium in Houston. Look at the baseline seats -- front row on the baseline is 2/3 of a court away from the court! Side seats have super low rise, so better hope you don't have someone tall in front of you. I just think it's awful.

hey, those were the good seats compared to the area i was in way up top. it was still fun to be there and soak in all the things surrounding the regional. no argument that those venues are not basketball friendly but they are what the ncaa has come to at this point in time and we have to live with it.

Making these teams play in domes in last few rounds, I don't want to hear the complaining about low scores and less offense. Obviously, ticket sale $ mean more to NCAA than good offense, which they'd get in a NBA arena.
