more years ago than I'd like to remember I worked for a gentleman who ran summer football and basketball camps for boys...
it wasn't unusual to have some well known pros from both sports join many of the best known Virginia college coaches at these camps...the camps were a for profit venture and I assume all players and coaches were being paid for their participation...some stayed the entire week...
almost 50 years later I usually read, or see a TV piece about the well known camp run on the Indians campus in Williamsburg...I have no idea if it's Coach Laycock's camp, or someone leasing the facilities for the camp...it usually features some of the NFL's biggest stars...this year Oliver Luck...in the past Brady etc....
anyone have any idea how the economics of these camps work these days?...50 years ago the NFLers and coaches needed a humble pay day in the off season...now these guys make millions per season...do they command thousands of $ for their appearances, appear on behalf of their gear sponsor or just do it pro bono for publicity, tax write off and the good of the kids?
Anybody know?
