A month ago, i said i was leaving the board until the season started. A number of you probably applauded. The unfortunately reality is that i care too much about this program to walk away.

A few thoughts from my absence:

Another reality is that i'm going to be in central virginia and supporting Spider athletics for a whole lot longer than Chris Mooney and the players he recruit to UR will. Most of you will too.

I just overpaid for a new home close enough to the UR athletic complex that i might be able to hit the Robins Center with a tennis ball. This isn't coincidence. I love Richmond athletics and have raised a family to feel the same way.

Chris Mooney will likely be fired in March of 2019 and replaced with Nathan Davis. At that point, we'll have about 3 to 4 years to determine if the root cause of our struggles for the near entirety of this decade were due to Chris Mooney or due to the UR Administration. I'll be willing to apologize to Chris if we find it's the latter but i think we all need to figure that out. Chris will be well compensated while he decides whether to accept our apology or not.

As Richmond supporters, there aren't that many of us. That small group is now split among even smaller groups of supporters that (1) want a change, those that (2) don't want a change, and (3) those that feel a need to ride a fence because they manage the message board or because they collect a paycheck from UR, directly or indirectly. None of these disparate groups are going to change their mind at this point. They're dug in. Some want wins. Some think other factors are causing us wins. Some want to protect their interests that don't relate to wins. It is what it is.

In March of 2019 it will be time for us all to come back together and support Nathan Davis or whoever is chosen to be the steward for the program we love so much. I am looking forward to that introductory press conference and for the opportunity for all groups of Spider supporters to again 'break bread'. Until then, let's find a way to put down the bows and arrows as best we can. We're the ones that are here for the long haul.

Thanks, Mo. You are right; we are all members of that relatively small Spider fraternity. Let’s see what happens in the months ahead. But please, anyone but Nathan Davis!

Mo, Welcome back! I don't know that much about Nathan Davis, or other possible successors, but it is clear that some changes are needed, and our AD is going to have to figure out the causes of the current issues quickly, so that we can apply more than a band-aid...

This coming season should answer definitively many questions about the "direction" of the program, but it is hard to find any solid data that supports that it is trending positively. We all know what tends to happen when we "keep doing the same stuff and hope for a different result." We have now been doing that for a number of years and have seen a good sample of the results. Have we seen enough?

We all scream for our Spiders!

Welcome back Mo! You are a very passionate and loyal Spider fan and I enjoy reading your posts on this forum.

I agree, looks like we’re stuck with Mooney for 1-2 more years, but we’ll get through it and then finally be able to move on. But please, not Nathan Davis. I get the feeling he will be Mooney 2.0

The common denominator on this board is that we all love and care about Spider athletics or else we wouldn’t be going on here all the time. We have to stick together at the end of the day because we are all in it for the long haul

Guys, I was not thrilled with Davis at first either. But darn, look at his coaching record as a head coach. It is kind of unbelievable what he has done and his win %, especially against the peer group in conference. Quite impressive I think. Whoever we hire we don't know if it will translate, you never know. I like Davis, the guy at Vermont, and Wes Miller - started at the bottom now he's up :).

"Chris Mooney will likely be fired in March of 2019 and replacedwith Nathan Davis."
You state this with such certainty...
...and I respectfully, but strongly disagree with you.
I think Mooney will be here after next year and if that happens he will be here for the foreseeable future - for better or worse. So, I think you and the others who want CM gone are just wasting your time and energy.
I assume you'll continue to cheer the team on, but If CM is here after next year will you continue the negatively rowards him until he's gone? If so, I applaud your steadfastness but personally I have no desire to be so openly negative simply because that would make me no fun to hang out with...and I need all the friends I can get!

We are not negative, we embrace a truth that some on this board and fandom fail to see. We are very positive, and feel the future is bright. when that future comes, we shall not know, but come over to the "positive" side, long time first time! You are welcome to come and drink beer at the picnic and tell your stories about Kenny Wood and Curtis Blair dunking on Steve Hood. Kenny Atkinson shaking and baking Fess Irvin and sticking the jumper at the end of the half. Jim Shields stepping up with an MVP performance to carry us to NCAA. Please, you are invited.

I feel like many people are staying quiet about change with Mooney. Consider spending a ton of money for a practice facility and renovating the Robin Center. Puts in millions of dollars to provide excellent facility and yet the product isn't much. Winning 20 games should be a minimum next year. Considering it's costs 50,000 a semester to a be a student.

Many people don’t care that much about what you and others (and I) care about, ie, going to the tournament. If it’s a clean program that’s generally competitive (this year notwithstanding) and we put out a reasonably engaging product, then that’s ok.

The program has been at times great, often mediocre, and rarely poor. It hasn’t been a dumpster fire, which is why not everyone is jumping up and down losing it like some folks are.

Sadly, I agree with this statement. I just think we could be so much more if we found a coach that could recruit to the level of talent we need to succeed in the A-10. And I think even the "Pro-Mooney crowd", which I think is probably the "I am just not Anti-Mooney" crowd is going to be so much happier and excited about our program come next Spring.

This I agree with. I don't hate what CM has done. He's had some good moments. I think that we should be able to produce more consistently and tend to think in general that we need to just change staff to re-energize things.
