SI has launched its rankings for the upcoming season, with the Spiders checking in at a bubblicious #46. We also get a brief text mention:

Haven't got into any researching yet but looking at SI's ranking couldn't be happier with the OOC schedule setup by Mooney and Co. Of course only preseason but no cupcakes in 300+ teams and only 2 - 200+ opponents is an improvement. Maybe only 3 P6 schools of the 6 top 100 opponents but Utah State neutral and Wofford away I don't believe will be pushovers.

We don’t want to be bubblicious come selection sunday. Not with Keith Gill on the committee. That shouldn’t be overlooked imo. Need to be solidly in.

I'm mixed on a tough schedule. when you add tough games, you're likely to lose a couple more. I think a marginally easier schedule gets you to the same place with more wins but a lower SOS.

from a fan perspective, the tough schedule is certainly more fun (when you win).

* should edit schedule to say Louisville OR Mississippi St.

You say tough schedule, S-man, but of 31 games, only 3 against higher ranked opponents, only 2 of those in the top 25 (#23&24), and the 3rd one ranked one spot above us. Given our status on the Rodney Dangerfield scale, we will probably need to win all 3 of these games just to be on the bubble.

if we win all 3 of those, we'll need to lose 10 other games to get back to the bubble.

Looking at some other previews now other than SI shows their OOC not as strong by the numbers. Whatever, I've seen worst for sure and believe setup for a 10-3 start. Say they don't beat any of Mary, Louis/MissSt or NCST they just need to make sure UtahSt, Drake, or NIowa are wins.
