Golden only needs 5 more points to be the second quickest U of R player to reach 1000 points behind the great Johnny Newman.

Gilyard after crushing the season steals record last year and missing 2 games this season is only 7 (please correct me if I am slightly off) away from breaking it again. At his current pace he will probably break it in either 2 or 3 games. He has 79 steals on the year with at least 5 games to go. At his current pace he should be on target to have 95 and more if we win in the tournament. He needs to average 100 steals a year his last 3 years to break the NCAA record.

BTW, they are the only 2 players in the A10 averaging 15 points a game and shooting over 50% in conference play.

Didn't the moderator just post something about excessive thread creation?

Couldn't this have gone in the LaSalle game thread?

Sure if you want to bury it and not give these fine players the acknowledgement they deserve.

I have been on record many times about Gily and Golden. I didn't pop up on the scene 12 months ago...

You created a fresh Gilyard thread only 8 days ago. I appreciate your agenda, but follow the mod's directions going fwd.

I'm pretty sure it was less directed at threads like this and more at the 4th or 5th billboard thread of the day or something similar.

No one is arguing that Grant and Jake are not great players. They are! I am questioning our coach’s ability to put these players in the best possible position to succeed on offense and defense. I also question his ability to put quality players around these guys so that the team can succeed. I have 8 years of teams that didn’t make the NCAA tournament to back my argument up.

Why? This post was more about their incredible careers so far. So numerous, non stop negative threads about the same subject are okay to you, but you choose a positive one about Grant and Jacob to say this? Wow.

Well said. Amazing that this board has become one where 2 great players who also happen to be class acts should be talked about only in an in game thread?

So, during the season 2 threads 8 days apart about one of our best players ever is too many to you? Unreal. The more threads the better about our players.

In other words, the results were positive - it engendered a response from a largely apathetic community, which is not a good way to go through life. People are now paying attention.

Happy Sunday, folks!

Took a moment to reflect on my past dozen posts, and realize that this entire situation and program is doing nothing but bringing out the worst in me. The mental anguish is becoming tiresome.

Apologies to all for the negativity. Thanks to the mods for all you do keeping the board afloat. Met some of you previously and you're great Spiders.

Calling it quits. Enough is enough.

Does anyone know what happens if Golden gets his 1000 point at GMU on Wednesday? Do they stop the game and give him the game ball? Nothing, but he gets recognized at the next home game?

In the past I think they’ve recognized the player at home either before or during the game.

I believe that John Newman and Dell Curry both reached 2000 points during the same game at the RC, and IIRC both players were recognized during separate official time-outs. Perhaps 1000 points doesn't merit recognition of that sort on an opponent's home court.

my guess is the announcer will make a comments after it happens, and the "recognition" will come at home before the vcu game

Been that way for years. If they stopped the game for every little milestone the games would take forever. They'll say something before the anthem at the next game, as they should.

Golden could score his 10,000th point of his career tomorrow night and Mason wouldn't say anything. The home team never recognizes a visiting player's achievement.

Two special Spider players indeed. I think no matter how the season ends, Mooney will be back next season. Say team improves next season to like 18-13 which gives Mooney even another year. Those two special players senior year along with Nick and say no NCAA bid comes. Unfortunate for them but not alone having experienced that playing for Mooney.

Bump for these two great players. Class acts as well. Two of our best ever and they will be dancing before they leave here.

Definitely 2 of our best ever! I’d also throw in Cayo as having the potential to join that group (as Harper did later in his career).

As for dancing, I surely hope so!

I am looking forward to next season, when we more than double our win total from this season, against a much harder schedule, en route to that elusive NCAA berth. Seems like pretty much a given at this point.

BTW, it looks like Newman had 1040 points by the end of his sophomore year which means unless Grant get's hurt, he will set the U of R record for most points through his Sophomore year in the history of U of R basketball. He also seems to be more aggressive on defense. 6 blocks his last game and seems to be getting more boards. I wounder if the strong back up play by Grace is giving him the "go ahead" to be more aggressive.

Got no problem with his beard as ugly as it is. Grew a goatee as a freshman and have only shaved it twice and not for the last 25 years or so.
