I probably am in the minority today regarding this but..... As much as today stings and we have no idea who our QB is next week, I have to give credit to this staff for navigating though one of the most injury riddled Spider teams I have seen in some time (2001 football team comes to mind).

The fact that we are 8-3 with as many season ending injuries we have had is simply astounding. If you said we'd lose half our starters this year and still beat UVA went 8-3 and made the playoffs most of us would take it.

That doesn't lessen the sting of today, but I can't help but think how proud I am of this program as much as today sucked. Aside from a complete horseshit call, we were still hanging on midway through the 2nd half and our D was carrying us until that call which clearly deflated us.

Not sure what to expect in the playoffs, but thrilled we are going for a 3rd straight year. To all those people saying we should decline an invitation, wtf are you smoking? Shame on you!

Spider born and spider bred, see you out there next week, they need the support now more then ever!

Great post. and yes, this team has dealt with more than its fair share of adversity. I'll probaby choose to remember this team for the UVA win - the only game we had all hands on deck.

Unfortunately , this is the way life and football work out sometimes.

I would like to know who took all the back up snaps doing the season. I'm guessing Broadus? but then what did Broadus do or what is the university doing to Broadus that he's not available? Chenault and Clise looked completely lost.

If we get a bid great, if the voters watched that game we may not. Losing 2 of the last 3, the defense has not looked good in those games and now the offense doesn't look like it can win a shoot out. Very tough ending to a great season.

Great initial post Ferrum Spider. The loss yesterday stings greatly but this group of kids and the coaching staff have done an outstanding job in the face of adversity. They have been dealt a tough hand but have persevered and kept our program in the top 10 the entire season. It is outrageous for some of our own fans to even question if this team is playoff worthy. They deserve this opportunity and will get it later today.

I really hope the negativity on the basketball board doesn't make its way over here on a team that went 8-3 and made the playoffs.
Well, unlike the hoops team, the football team makes it to the playoffs regularly. They compete for league championships regularly. They are an upper echelon FCS program and that isn't even debatable.

We don't have to do fancy analytics or start up the excuse Djour machine overhere because Rocco wins and wins big.

Kinda the point I'm making. Why all the negativity over the last day on a playoff 8-3 team. Although I don't agree w the negativity (fine with constructive criticism) on hoops I understand the frustration of not being in the dance for 5 years and all while not changing much up.

But we act like the sky is falling when we have had a great season despite all the injuries and going to the playoffs for 3 straight years.

I kind of hope my season reflection has something to do with an unknown QB coming in and carrying us far enough there there is a QB controversy next year. Let's call it the Ohio St "problem"

Staff has done a great job producing wins with huge injury problems. truly an excellent season. Think UR must burn a redshirt for playoffs at QB. No reason to have 2 redshirts behind Lauletta next year.

our program is in great shape, period. to me, a winning season and winning the last game of the regular season, am happy. getting to the playoffs is great and continuing to win there is just super. kind of avoid the baskeball board, just too painful and if that happens on the football board, yuk.

Whatever negativity there is, it's not about the season as a whole. It's about the circumstances with the injuries, the way we finished the season, the horrendous second half of the W&M game, and the perception entering the playoffs. No one is complaining about going 8-3 and whipping Virginia. Not saying I agree with it, but I can certainly understand it. Our expectations were sky high after making the semifinals last year. Virtually everyone on this board had visions of a run to the championship game and a rematch with UDSU, and now the likelihood of that happening is remote at best.
