Given the result of UVA- someone tested positive in the UVA program, this seems to merit its own thread. UVA has to bow out of the ACC tournament, allowing GA Tech to advance. UVA now has to quarantine. The typical quarantine lasts 14 days, which runs past the start of the NCAAT. One may conclude that UVA's season is over.

If they follow the guidelines in Virginia, UVA will have to quarantine for 14 days, making UVA ineligible for the post season. Although I could see them receiving a reprieve/ stay from our Governor.

The NCAA Tournament rule is to test clear for 7 straight days. If they aren’t playing here I think the VA health standards may be circumventable.

UVA will follow NCAA Protocol in this instance which says players must have 7 days of negative tests to participate. So assuming today is day 1 - they will test each player every day and those that are negative for 7 straight days can play the opening game. Today is Friday - so the NCAA will need to schedule them for a Friday game, which I think they will do.

Duke was in same boat - but given their record, I don't see them making it anyways.

Not quite sure logistically how the UVA thing would work though. They would have to test negative right up to the day of their game. What if they don't test negative that day? Is the replacement team going to fly to Indy that day? Is it going to be waiting in Indy for a game it might not get to play?

I think UVA will get by because you can assume 1 player tested positive. But I am sure the other players have been tested everyday. So as long as they continue to test negative (a Big IF) - then they likely already have 7 days under their belt and just need to continue until tourney time.

I don't think the protocol calls for 7 negative tests for everyone from the day of 1 positive. All it means (I think) is that for the positive case to become eligible again - he will need 7 days of negative tests. Assuming they were able to stay away or not catch it from this kid - the other players should be fine and UVA was likely shutting down as a precaution to limit the spread since they are assured a spot in the tourney.

5 eligible players clear the protocol. NCAA is picking four extra teams in event an already selected team is ineligible because of Covid before the Tournament starts.

The highest-ranked four at-large schools that fail to make the tournament will be considered replacement teams. The teams will be ranked from one to four and will be required to continue testing protocols. After the tournament begins next Friday, there will be no replacement teams.
