Russia has cut off gas to Germany until July 21. Germany believes they will extend the shutdown for longer. This is clearly a shot across the bow of Germany and Western Europe. This highlights the seriousness of the situation.

Yikes- the Germans and Russians get along so well too. LOL

Thanks Biden!
In what way?
Europe's dependence on Russian fossil fuels isn't Biden's fault. The Russians bought German politicians, who run the Russian gas importer that supplies Germany. Russia and China pay green NGOs (non-profits) in Germany to oppose German energy independence.

Germany has something like the 2nd largest reserves of natural gas in the world. But they are not allowed to tap it because of internal politics. They certainly don't like fracking either. They shut down their nuclear reactors and are phasing out coal electric power plants. They can't and will never generate nearly enough electricity through solar and wind.

If anything, Biden is responsible for impeding US production of natural gas that can be exported to Europe. Our gas is better and cheaper than Russia's, even when delivered by ship. It would be a huge boon to the US.

IMHO, the Germans and all of Europe should just rip the bandaid off and ban all Russian gas and oil.

Bad news for Germany and Western Europe

"Russia expects its average price for gas exports to more than double over the course of this year, according to economy ministry forecasts seen by Reuters.

The figures suggested that the average price charged by state-owned energy giant Gazprom in 2022 would be $730 (£605) per 1,000 cubic metres, up from $305 (£253) in 2021.

Based on those forecasts, the ministry expects Russia to earn $338bn (£280bn) and $256bn (£213bn) from its total energy exports this year and next, respectively, up from $244bn (£202bn) in 2021."

A serious Merkle miscalculation (didn't have many). Thought she could establish a special relationship with Putin and bring Russian into the Western European orbit. Her successor must deal with the ramifications.

She prostituted Germany to Russian energy sources by shuttering coal and nuclear plants in a Green Energy frenzy. Too far. Too fast. Now the average Joe (Fritz) will pay.

There is a lesson looming here for other countries.

To her credit, she seized upon the importance of natural gas as a bridge fuel, but flummoxed the near total reliance upon an unreliable source.

It is happening abandoned. Russia is shutting down the Nord Stream pipeline again. Russia is still only running Nord Stream at 20% capacity.

"Russian state-owned energy exporter Gazprom PJSC said it would shut down the Nord Stream natural-gas pipeline to Germany for three days of maintenance....

Moscow has already throttled back deliveries over the pipeline—its main gas link to Europe—to 20% of its maximum capacity."

Russia has shut down all gas deliveries to Europe until Saturday. They are using gas to force Germany to capitulate.

"BERLIN—Russia shut down its main artery for natural gas to Europe for maintenance on Wednesday, in what Western governments see as the latest salvo in the Kremlin’s economic war on the continent."

Russia has indefinitely Russia indefinitely suspended natural gas flows to Europe via a key pipeline hours after the Group of Seven agreed to an oil price cap for Russian crude—two opposing blows exchanged between Moscow and the West in an economic war running parallel to the military conflict in Ukraine.
