I know everyone on this board will be pulling for this team until the final buzzer in Brooklyn but I wanted get an idea of what our rotation might look like next season.

I realize that this post is opening up the potential for the "Coach will only play upperclassmen, etc" responses but I'm really just looking for an idea of what kind of rotation/depth we will be looking at.

By midseason, Jones, Fore and Buckingham will start at guard. Marshall and TJ will start in the frontcourt. JJ and PF will be the first two off the bench. Sherod and Golden will play 8-10 mins each.

Starters: KF, SDJ, TJ, MW, D'mB.
1st off bench: JJ, PF, NS, JP (if he stays), KD (if he stays), GG

seems about right to me. unless we land Wesson. not giving up.

Largely agree. It will be interesting to see if Sherod/Demonte is our 3rd "starting guard". Which is a bit of misnomer, it might be a 3 guard line-up but the whoever the 3rd is will be guarding a forward, so something to consider. In that sense, Sherod makes a better fit to start because he is a bit bigger and stronger. Demonte probably has a better all around game though.

Whichever doesn't start, will be first off the bench. Both those guys are better than Julius Johnson. Also really need, I mean really need a grad transfer banger next year. Marshall and TJ starting as our big men should excite anyone from an offensive perspective, but should equally scare the crap out of you from a defensive perspective.

97 - Great point about the defensive liabilities of the frontcourt.

One of the reasons I believe Buck will get more time than Nick initially is because I see him as physically stronger right now.

Starters with backups in order:

1 - SDJ/KF
2 - KF/RunDMB/JJ/JP
3 - MW/NS/RunDMB/KD
4 - GG (you heard it here first)/MW/whatever other offer we make to some dude
5 - TJ/PF

I still don't see Marshall at 4, we need a better back to basket/pivot player. Starting a freshman, much less a freshman power forward is mostly ludicrous, but I don't see another realistic option unless Marshall's inside game comes a long way by next fall.

I like it, TBone, and I think there's a decent chance that happens. Golden seems to be atypical among our typical big man recruits, in that he seems physically ready. Maybe Paul will be ready too, but I don't get the sense that he is a banger. Golden could be. I think Buckingham will play 15 minutes or more a game, and Sherod 5-10. Buckingham is more physically advanced than Sherod at this point.

I am sorry who cares at this stage as I have to first get past baseball. Spring Football and real football.

MW will almost exclusively shoot 3's, but he'll play the 4 position because he has to defensively. we need more quickness on defense. going with a MW/GG/TJ frontcourt is not the defensive answer.

Can we add in a hypothetical grad transfer big who can play defense?

Yes. That guy is going to start at the 4 next year. Whoever he is.

Any Aussie Big Men out there with plans to graduate with a year of eligibility remaining who may have an interest in our school of continuing studies?

Would agree Sman that MW at 3 is not ideal on D, just like MW at 4 is not ideal on O. It's a conundrum, so not sure quite where we will land on this. I always think O first, but probably not how CM thinks.

I would concur that we should be fishing heavily into the grad transfer market for an option there.

He's also going to average a double-double for us. Can't wait til he gets here!

Well, I won't hold my breath, because we could have used this guy, this year too, after losing ANO. I know we kicked the tires on a couple grad transfer and then I guess decided that an offer to Kovien and giving the remaining scholarship to Joe Kirby, seemed like a better bet. That plan seems to be working splendidly. Anyone know if Tilman and Cox's wrists are sore today from the dunk fest on Friday night.

A couple interesting potential grad transfers:

• RJ White, UNCG - 6-8, 280 C – avgs. 12.8 ppg , 7 rpg
• Jimmy Hall, Kent State - 6-8, 235 PF – avgs. 16.2 ppg, 7.7 rpg

Ok, that definitely made me laugh.

Hall would be graduating from Kent State this year. He's been there for three years after having been kicked out of Hofstra. But yes, too much baggage there for a one and done.

I think it's too early to start applying minutes to players for next year, but I seriously believe that if next year's freshman class does not make a SIGNIFICANT contribution in year one, we could be in trouble.

An interesting part of Buckingham's, Sherod's and Golden's games are that they are tremendous rebounders. If allowed, they are the types to crash boards despite height differences. That may be a factor relative to minutes.

Yeah that is some big time thievery for Hall - from the cited article - in late November 2012, he was one of four Hofstra men’s basketball players arrested and charged with felony burglary after admitting to stealing more than $10,000 worth of laptop computers, iPads and other items from fellow students

they are tremendous rebounders against high school basketball players. 99% of the kids they're up against will never play D1 ball. everyone on our team was a ridiculously good high school player.

I would settle for someone who just TRIED to rebound at this point. Just jump up in the air with TWO hands and grab the ball. You guys and I both see 7500 people cheer when we get a rebound like it was a dunk!!! It has gotten so bad.

I am still having a hard time seeing where the Defense will come from if we play the same ole speed dating style looking for the right matchup.

Rats maybe jumping the Louisville ship when the NCAA gets through them. Can any of them get in?

This is what I don't get either. Unless Buckingham and the grad transfer big guy TBD are all conference caliber defenders next year, I just can't see the defense being terribly different in 2016-17.

Nobody saw the defense coming this year, many thought we would be better on defense and struggle on offense. You never know how a team is going to turn out until they start to play the games, but I don't think it is possible for our team to be worse on defense next year.

Speed dating has worked the last few years, but this year we look for the wrong matchup and then stop looking when we find it. I'm sure there is an analogy there that I shouldn't make, and won't.

The question is...is this caused by bad decision making on the court, bad planning off the court, or compensating for defensive skill sets that are different from prior years?

Well, the last 7 seasons, we had either Garrett or ANO protecting the basket.
