Definitely looks like a good player, but pursuing a 6’4” power forward is a little surprising...

We usually beat teams like Xavier and Ohio State for recruits, so the only question left to ask is what number will this guy wear for us?

So we’re sitting on 3 open spots right now?

Lost 4 - Solly, Paul, Madrid-Andrews, Fore

Signed 1 - Sal

Anyone getting a good read between the lines on whether Mooney thinks Bryce may come based on UR’s recent offers? I haven’t had time to keep up with the recruiting lately.

Kyle Castlin looks like he would be a terrific "get" for us. The main things we have going for us could be the coaching connections, and the fact that he is well known by our former player (Mr. Hovde). Connections can make all the difference!

I do not believe this guy would be slated to play PF for us. He looks like an excellent ball-handler, and could likely play any position between a 2 and a 4 for us. If he were on-board, and were stronger than the alternative PFs, then maybe he plays the 4. Otherwise, he appears to be a guy who is VERSATILE enough to play 3 positions, maybe off the bench. And, we all know that CM loves versatile!

The competition is tough, but this recruit may actually be more interested in his education than playing professionally, so that would give us a huge edge over MANY schools!

1. We never beat OSU, Xavier, etc for recruits.
2. Bryce - Yes he will come, If Mooney cannot land him we are in BIG trouble
3. Hovde went to San Fran in 2016, and why would the head coach push for him to go to Richmond

Hello.Anyone home?

Before coming to Saint Mary’s, Smith spent one season as the top assistant at the Air Force Academy. During his only season with the Falcons, Smith served as the offensive coordinator, recruiting coordinator and helped with player development and scouting.Smith is currently Head coach at San Francisco.Hovde is his assistant there.

Both Smith and Hovde coached Castlin at Columbia before going to the Dons. They are more than casually familiar with Mooney.Hello....

If admissions can't get this guy in, everyone should storm the castle.

Castlin's outside shot is a little two handed. can't think of who it reminds me of.
anyone?

Hello

Hello

Hello

I like the looks of Castlin. One question, can he guard on the perimeter? Can he keep guys in front of him? If so, could be a good replacement for Fore on that front. I think Buck can play some PG minutes. I know he works on his handle in off season, and I have always thought he has exceptional court vision and ability to find the open man. I think some of the quicker PG's would give him trouble on the defensive end.

I think Castlin could be a very good depth guy for us next year. Would seem to be a step up from the grad transfers recently.

He did seem to play PF for Columbia 2/3 of his court time the last month of this season. Could very easily be a function of the team not the player...
It does say “G” right there on the video...maybe I missed where he got designated as a PF.

From his actual performance in the last five games by....Ken Pomeroy...

I think Castlin is a 4 like Buck is a 4. It is more due to Castlin being the most 4-like player in a 4-guard lineup than the 4 being his natural position. Kenpom would probably label him as a 2 in a 4-guard lineup with Gilyard, Sherod and Buck.

Maybe we should be adding a bit more Mooney to the team!

Matt Mooney is considering a grad transfer from South Dakota. A good combo guard, efficient high volume shooter with good defensive stats too. Worth taking a look at I think.
