Obviously with Tomas transferring we have an open scholarship for next year.

How would you prefer to fill that spot?

Going into next year we will have two large classes of 5 for SR's and JR's and only 1 each in the SO and FR class.

I would like the coaching staff to target a couple of known quantities through the transfer market. Similar to what they were able to find with Francis and Crabtree (hopefully) to help balance the classes.

As much as I would like to add another big man to strengthen next years rotation, it is a little late to find a capable big man who can compete as a FR with this line-up.

Not saying they should not be recruiting like heck for one. Just saying, I think they have a better shot at finding a transfer who can come in the following year and become a starter, ala Francis this season.

Ideally, I would like to see them do this two years in a row and find someone who can be in Burton's class and then another the following year who would be in Isaiah Wilson class.

That would allow the staff to focus on recruiting 3-4 for the next FR class instead potentially 5 or 6. Unless you are a Duke or Kentucky, it's almost impossible to recruit 5-6 high quality players in a single class.

I think with the open scholarship due to Tomas leaving, you try to get someone signed for next season as a frosh, or a potential transfer like Francis - who will need to sit out next year, but then is ready to go once we have that mass exodus of 5 the next year. I would target a big man - as that seems to be our biggest need. But in all reality - unless we get an absolute stud, I don't see anyone cracking the line-up next season as a newcomer.
Only exception would be if we could target a grad transfer from a lower level school looking to make an NCAA run. But we have not had much luck with those and they usually get swallowed up by P5 programs.

Would you be ok with a freshman like Burton next year but a couple inches taller, even if he didn't crack the lineup the first year?

Just a slight correction here, Crabtree will be a redshirt sophomore, so him and Burton makes 2 in that class

That would be fine by me - as I said, I don't expect really anyone to crack the lineup next year. But I like the idea of bringing in a frosh, maybe even redshirting - and giving them a year to play in practice against some really good players.

Ideally, we get a transfer 5 with this open slot. They sit next year, get to practice against and learn with Grant, but then is ready to take his place the following year. You get a side benefit of giving Grant a high quality big to practice with which should improve Grant's game next year as well. Mooney alluded to this as his goal.

Almost all of our 5 takes a year or two to be really effective (Grant and Geriot are the only two that were able to make immediate impacts as freshman), so unless we get one with this ship, we are really behind the eight ball come 2021.
