If you consider the $50 million dollar donation ($320 million in today’s dollars) not to mention the millions more they put into basketball and football over the years e Claiborne must be shaking his head in disgust. The athletic programs he so loved have come to this in the hands of the current administration who obviously accept mediocrity.

what’s the old saying First generation creates the wealth, second maintains it, third generation squanders it....pretty much defines where we athletically are

Can we get a Robins/Ukrops partnership and kick Queally/Hard/Mooney out on their collective arses? Trying to see some light at the end of the Richmond basketball tunnel, but a bit hard to do.

I was all set to go along with truther nation a few months back, but Mooney just keeps being Mooney. I really do try to see the light with Mooney, and thought we were looking good for a resurgence this summer. Then Mooney slowly chipped away:
1) Lost out on prized big men recruits we were in the running for - one to Temple, one to BC I think, one to Clemson, one to Penn I believe. Truthers point out how hard it is to land big guys and especially vs top p6 schools. Let me be clear here, none of those are top p6 schools, Clemson is closest but not been a basketball power ever. We were in the top 5 for all, any bit of closing skill or just even dumb luck and we should have had ONE!! And at the time we were recruiting them, we had Goodman touting us as top 15, multiple other top 25 pre season mentions, all based on being on the bubble last year and returning everyone. If ever Mooney should have been able to close one out, this summer was it.
2) Compounded this by losing Weir. I know, truther excuse city - but you are the 1.3 million open door coach. Either you recruited the wrong guy, or didn't do enough to help him navigate a weird covid filled freshman season. Could be he just wasn't a fit or motivated, but then should have got someone else to start.
3) Team just was never energized, other than the Kentucky game. Many have pointed out, watch benches at low level, mid major, ACC, wherever and they are into it. We just seemed flat too many games. Same old Mooney.
4) Fade, miss tourney.

Where is the optimism. Yes, like our freshman and guys coming in - BUT still big wholes to fill and no indication that he can fill them.

I think Mooney has enough money from his salaries over the last decade to start donating back to the university. Should be a new wing on the Jepson School of Leadership soon: Mooney Vestibule on Mediocre Leadership. Scholarship minimum requirements are a pulse, a 1000 on the SATS, and no desire/ability to rebound

I think some of the younger Robins family had a rift when the University moved to mixing guys and girls living on both sides of the lake. And Ukrops was disgusted with the removal of the soccer program.

I can't confirm - but I don't believe they have stopped supporting the University, but I thought someone from the inside told me they have become less involved and less vocal, and if I had to guess - I would assume the donations are less as well.

I don’t think the lake had anything to do with riff. If I was a Robins I’d be asking myself why would I give UR anything else, they’ve Squandered the millions we already given them for athletics. Also always remember football was endowed. The Robins matched individual contributions. This was over and above the $50 million

I think I remember a frosh girls dorm being named after one of the Robins and they had an issue with the mixing of boys and girls on the sides of the lake. Not sure what the end result was - in terms of less donations or less input, but I agree - why would they give so much money to school now?

why does anyone give millions to a school? because they love it and want to make a difference I assume.
Right - but if the Robins family gives money to the athletic department (assume they do since their name is on the Basketball and Football stadiums), and they don't see it making a difference (getting same results over and over again) - why continue to give to that area? Might as well give money somewhere else within the school.
