a few video clips from this very entertaining game...the offense has really played well the last two games...

I'm really happy for the players and glad to see them get a win over an ACC team in front of the home fans...

I cringed a little when the Deacs came out in the second half and took the 43-40 lead...we've all seen the Spiders come out flat for the second half many times...tonight not so much...after the TO we put five on them to regain the lead and never looked back...

it was a good show...

Go Spiders!

Definitely need to give our boys some credit for playing tough. I was very concerned with the body language displayed in a couple of prior games. But they have played stong the last couple games.

I thought Cayo played well and it was good to get more of a contribution from the bench (AG Yates, etc.). We still have a serious issue with depth but the bench had a nice game. Hopefully they can continue to develop.

One thing I will give Mooney credit for is his offense is designed to get the ball in the post to Grant every possession. I have been begging for that the past few years and I’m finally happy to see it. But because Grant is so important offensively it highlights our biggest weakness on defense.

While I’m happy to see out kids play well, I put this more on Manning’s shoulders (or head?) than anything else. He has to be the worst coach in D1 basketball. He seems like a good guy but he not a D1 coach. I sit right next to the opposing teams parents and it was obvious to them (just like it is to our fans) at what the Wake offensive game plan should have been - get the ball into the paint.

I honestly can’t tell you what his game plan was, or maybe lack of game plan is a better way to put it. Every team we play should attack Grant. Because he is so valuable on offense he knows he can’t afford to get unto foul trouble. The other team should either score in the paint against him, get 2nd chance points because we aren’t a great rebounding team, or get him into foul trouble when he does challenge the play.

I don’t care if you big man is <40% from the FT line, get him the ball. Because either Grant is going to protect himself and play soft or he is going to get into foul trouble. Which is even better for the opposing team. When Grant is out of the game we are very limited offensively.

Maybe Grace can continue to develop throughout the season and give us some more options. I was impressed with his rebounding and his defense was serviceable. But offensively there is a huge gap between him and Grant.

It was as if Wake didn't watch any film prior to the game.

Some pretty impressive stats came out of that game:

21 assists to only 3 turnovers! (Has to be one of our best ratios)
18 of 21 from the line!! (85.7% - who sold their soul?)
19 bench points (finally!)
28 points off turnovers (luv those steals!)
42 points in the paint (half our points)
Yates - 3/4 from field (2/3 from 3), 1 Assist & 5 rebounds (led team) in 16 min.

Noah did some nice work with his time on the floor. Amazing that he led the team with rebounds in 16 minutes of playing time. Well, maybe more disturbing than amazing.

some thoughts on the game which I really enjoyed ...

Grant's the best offensive big man we've ever had, and I thought he did a better job defending.

Jacob moved much better than I expected, though not 100%. the talk about missing the year was way over blown. his shooting was off, but he got to the rim and his defense and passing made a huge impact.

Woj - I think Manning did what I said I'd do, focus on stopping Woj. You can't let him bury six 3's. tough game for him.

Nathan's had 3 monster games in a row. late in the clock we can go to Grant or someone has to create their own shot. Nathan consistently gets in the lane and finishes in traffic at a very high rate. just stop with saying he's ignoring CM and doing what he wants to do on offense. that's ridiculous. the comp someone made to Terry Allen is a good one though Terry did a little more with his back to the basket while Nathan is almost always attacking from a face up position. Nathan's overall development in a year is really impressive. and we needed it.

Julius - he's really stepped up with Nick out. he's shooting like we expected when recruited but we've rarely seen. he's been great the last two games.

Noah - he hadn't shown much before Saturday. we'd heard he was a very good shooter. stroke looked great this game. hope he's turned the corner. need him to be a piece.

Andre - continues to impress. with Jacob back, he wasn't going to have the impact of the Georgetown game, but he looked good. that was a big three pointer.

Sal - nice finishing inside and solid defense again. still want to see a three pointer drop but it's coming.

Matt - nice roll and great hands on that highlight feed from Jacob. gave Grant the rest he needed.

21-3 assist to turnover ratio is crazy, granted Wake didn't pressure much. and one of those turnovers was a horrible call. they said Jacob hadn't gotten back in bounds, when in reality he had taken 3 steps in bounds before touching the ball!

I love watching VCU losing but I will stick with UR winning as the better high.
Yes, it is completely ridiculous how much we care about some team down the block. I don't give a flying f what they do. It doesn't matter. It is all about us. We have all the pieces for a great team, year after year. Once we fix the coach, we will have unprecedented success. Mark my words. We have the ingredients for a national program.

Agree, I am sick of the lowered expectations Mooney is enabling, it is sickening mr.
