Must be as I didn't see a print ad in today's paper ( although I may have missed it), or any other advertising.

Plenty of Empty seats per the seating chart this afternoon! Go to website and click on "buy tickets" and you can check seat availability by section

Missed sarcasm,9legs.We don't have a Marketing Dept.Maybe we'll get some UVa-VTech diehards who want some more football after their Friday night battle.Fresh air in the west end.Tough weekend. No students(they don't attend anyway)and even season tix holders who are either out of town or made previous commitments.

Charging kids $25 who accompany adults is a deal killer.

If we get 4,000 it will be a good day.Weather should be ideal.Dont expect many visitors from Baltimore school to cheer on their team. They had less than 1,500 at their last home game vs Delaware State.

32, I agree on our marketing problems but I think that the NCAA makes all ticketing decisions.

have kind of always felt this way, when we make the playoffs and not a top 4 seed, let's hit the road and save the money we spend/lose HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL SPIDS EVERYWHERE!!

Wow, what a great strategy to hide your light under a basket so you can rollover and cede the city. No ads in sports section today for UR football only promoting the RTD VCU uva ticket give away for the 12/6 game on broad. I looked at jmu and their tickets are $12-20. We must have a no buzz athletic dept policy. The media in this area is whored out to VCU, many times by default. We get some positive accomplishment and the Athletic dept sits on their thumbs.
just checked coastalc- tickets for the playoff game are $15

Totally agree about our marketing, or lack thereof. This would be a tough weekend regardless, but it's like we don't even try to promote our product. We have a good football team that plays an exciting style of football. We should try to 've people in the stands.

I think the NCAA does set the price. So any tickets sold under $25, the difference has to be paid by the school.

If you give an incentive to youth with a lower priced tickets someone has to bring them to the game and will purchase the $25 ticket. Not rocket science

I heard radio advertising for the game everyday this week on various stations.

Does anybody actually buy - let alone clip sports page ticket coupons - anymore???

I'm curious. What stations and approximate times? I'm listen to a lot of radio and usually wrva, 910 and 950 and didn't hear any ads. Print ads don't necessarily include coupons and judging from the six of yesterday's delivered paper some companies still make use of print media. Anyone seen any digital ads?

Aren't we big time- Complaining about a $25 NCAA playoffs ticket. We need to start supporting out guys as much as we want they to play. We are in the NCAA and we have a home game. I love it. GLASS HALF Full!!!!

R&B +1 -- we're fortunate to have an AD that is willing to take a chance and put in a bid large enough to get us a home game. Ask the JMU fans how they have felt for years going on the road for the playoffs.

I don't think anyone here is complaining about $25 for themselves. This is more about getting the casual fan out to the game and bringing their kids AND FILLING UP THE STADIUM. I mean, we are playing Morgan State, not Ohio State. Not a whole lot of incentive for the casual fan to come out with a family of four to pay $100 to see Morgan State.

I just heard a spot on AM 910 on my way to the grocery store this morning. I think $25 is high.

With all due respect, I think you guys are missing the point.

If we were outbid by Sacred Heart or Eastern Kentucky, (A) we'd be furious with Keith Gill for submitting a crappy bid and (B) those of us travelling to the game would spent way more on gas than the difference between $15 and $25 for tickets. But then Sacred Heart could try to get the ever-coveted 'casual fans' to the game.

If there's a way of ensuring we won't host future playoff games, griping about spending $25 to support our team in a home NCAA game is surely it.

My main point for now is, this is our 5th time hosting in the last 10 years. How was the price structure handled in prior years? I thought we charged $25 every time...

While personally, I think the ticket price is high for the casual fan, as a season ticket holder I feel that I signed on for the game regardless of price and am just glad that we have a home game. I even bought an additional tickets for family.

With that being said, the difference between the Athletic Departments gross revenue from ticket sale revenue and expenses for the bid and operations should be a rounding error for a school with a $2.1 billion endowment.

According to the following article regarding SDSU, the minimum bid is $35,000.

http://www.argusleader.com/story/sports/college/south-dakota-state-university/2014/11/26/qa-sdsu-athletic-director-justin-sell/70132642/

Not sure what we bid, but 4000 tickets at $25 is $100,000 gross.

To me, the larger the crowd the more exposure for the program and the University. Given the financial strength of the school, any negative $ output (if any)would be "De Minimis"! It is nickel and dime especially when people question whether we got fair value in the $17 million renovation to the Robins Center.

Let's be positive - despite the holiday break, no appreciable drop in student attendance is expected.

Come on man. Is $25 a big deal? Really? For crying out loud, be happy that UR made the playoffs. Go Spiders! Ulla1 will be bringing an entourage from Maryland.

I haven't been complaining, but...

If your intent was to bring a herd of 10 yr olds, then $200 for 8 of them could be a bit much.

Morgan State sold their allotment of tickets and are bringing several bus loads of students. We better not sleep on MSU.

Their fans ain't playing and will be outnumbered. However, it is their first ever playoff game so I expect them to leave it all out there. Play our game and we should be OK.

Morgan students and alumni will occupy Sections 116, 117, 216 and 217 in Robins Stadium in Richmond.Believe they have sold about 600 tix.

Thank you for the $15000 in revenue! Now let's be good hosts everywhere EXCEPT on the playing field. GO SPIDERS!

Well, you could say we can be good hosts there too...by showing them how the game is played!

Final word on ticket prices. By NCAA rule, you can't sell tickets for less than your lowest regular season ticket price. Ours was $25.

So there you go.

Crowd about as expected today. Will be interested on final count. I would guess about 5,000. Been way too long since we had a home playoff game. Hopefully it becomes a more recurring event.

Msu fans were nice. Met a few at tailgates under the pines. As a group they were vocal, supporters for their team. The band was a nice feature and performed a great halftime show. Toooooooo many empty seats.
