Portsmouth Invitational Tournament

Terry's game is underway now on ESPN3.com. He's on Norfolk Sports Club, the team wearing white.

Terry needs to stop taking threes and do some work in the paint. His defense has been really good so far.

Terry finished with 8 points on 4-for-11 from the field, 0-for-5 from three. 6 boards, 5 assists, and 3 steals, with 3 turnovers.

His team advances and plays again tomorrow night at 9:00.

If he didn't take so many threes his stat line would look a lot more impressive. He played good defense all night, that doesn't show up in the box score.

I think TA has to show he can hit the three since he doesn't look like a prototype NBA 4. He's a fine shooter so he should hit some.

If he is open , he will take the shot. The three's will come.

I agree, Terry can hit three, you can't leave him open on the perimeter or he will make you pay. However, the thing that makes Terry's game special, and the reason he has been one of my favorite spiders, is his craftiness around the hoop. I think Terry only had ~5 shots around the basket tonight and scored on 4 of them, he is incredibly efficient and hard to stop when he gets the ball in the post. Unfortunately in this tournament all the players are playing for themselves, and not the team, so Terry didn't get as many touches in the post as he should have. I just wish he had more opportunity to show off the best part of his game.

Terry performed extremely well on defense tonight. Since he was the only player I cared about in the game I could focus solely on his play, certainly a different experience than I usually have watching games. I don't think the player he was defending scored a single time. His assist and steal numbers were very impressive. I hope in the next game the team gives him some more touches in the post so he can really show off.

13 thinks it is his job to bring people back to a level of reasonable thinking. So if you support a player, coach etc expect him to attempt to show you that you are expecting to much. Of course by saying something good is not necessarily a statement that all is perfect.

I'm sure he's been working a ton on his 3's. yes, he's a terrific player in the paint but for him to make his mark going forward he's going to have to have a knock down outside shot. at his size he has to be either an athletic monster or a great shooter. he's a good athlete, but not freaky good. heck of a basketball player, though.

You are exactly right, the PIT like all All Star games is a guard showcase. The bigs are just there to mop up.

Not that great a shooter. Sorry .
Please. If Harper isn't playing what makes you think TA will?

Not that great a shooter. Sorry.
Terry will have plenty of options in Europe if the NBA never comes calling.

Anyways, I don't think anyone on here is even making an NBA claim, just continuing to follow the career parh of a great Spider.
You sound like a red neck hater. Why wouldn' t you want to see a Spider make it to the next level. Terry and Justin are two different players. God is in control over Terry Allen future. Sorry Marley you are not in control... So sad!!!

Stephanie, Marley is a vcu person and is always critical of all UR players. Pay no attention to him. We love Terry and greatly appreciate his contributions. We wish Terry, you and your extended family nothing but the best. OSC

Thanks. I just want my son to move on. I will be at peace when we close the door to Richmond. He is going to be fine. He has a great support team. He has opportunity to play at the next level. True fans would be happy and supportive. Terry has put in the work and he deserve this opportunity.

Stefanie, don't let the comments of limited few destroy your opinion of Richmond. Terry was both loved and respected here at Richmond. He continues to be viewed that way. He was the favorite Spider of many. The general consensus of Richmond fans is a desire to see Terry reach the highest level possible. We may pick on, and at, one another, but once a Spider, always a Spider!. We hope Terry and his family will feel the same, if not now, in the near future and forever more!

TA will get even bigger and stronger over the next couple years. I think all he needs to work on, which I am sure he is, is getting that outside shot off a little faster like the NBA guys do. No doubt he will make some nice $$Duckets playing professional basketball, and with a UR degree he will know how to manage his money. Good luck to TA and his family, I know my family was glad to have him at UR for 4 years.

Marley a hater, that might be accurate, but redneck? Coming from a long line of rednecks, that surely sounds a little bigoted to me. You might want to take that part back.

Terry is about 10-15 lbs heavier than Justin. That is a big plus that might help him defend a bigger player that Justin. The slate is clean now and the past careers mean nothing. You have to compare the 2 and see which one can help you more. Remember that Kenneth Faried got picked in front of Justin and made it to the show because he was a more aggressive rebounder/defender. Terry is the same height and has as good a skill set as either of those 2 but has some more muscle. He might turn out to be better than both. First he has to get the chance. Then he has to make the most of that chance. It's up to him.

Faried was one of the nation's leaders in rebounding for 3 years running in college with 13+ per game each year. ridiculously athletic with a non-stop motor. not many like him. ever.

Faried is a great player and great pro, but Harper flat out owned him when we played Morehead in the NCAA's in 2011.

Harp is 6'10", Terry is 6'8".

yup. Harp's bigger and a lights out shooter. Faried's a rebounding monster. both drafted high.
for all the great things Terry does, he's neither a lights out shooter or a rebounding monster. despite being more well rounded, I think the other guys have a better NBA shot as they can fill a role. but hopefully a team sees all of Terry's assets and drafts him.

I would love to see Terry in the NBA, but I just don't see how his game translate to the NBA (at least right now). He would need to add considerable bulk to be able to bang like a 4 in the NBA or drastically improve his perimeter game to play an outside wing position.

I see Terry as having a long and prosperous career in Europe. And there is nothing wrong with that at all.

I don't follow the NBA enough to know how TA projects. He's not a slight guy, I suspect he can hold his own strength-wise but I do think he seems like a bit of a tweener from SF/PF. I hope someone gives him a shot, he's very good at locating the basket and I think is a decent enough outside shot that defenders have to respect him.

Only other Spiders I think played somewhat recently in PIT that I can remember and this is a while ago was Dobbins and Skrocki. I also think Bucknor played too, but not sure.

Unfortunately - with the NBA focused on kids leaving early and potential over production, the PIT means less today than it ever did. You are lucky if 2-3 kids from the PIT get drafted or make a roster in year 1.
