The current Richmond police chief just resigned, and Rick Edwards was named the new chief. So now we have Spiders in charge of two of the top three police departments in the region. (Looking at you, Chesterfield...get with it.)

NO ONE should trust Stoney. As someone fairly active in city politics and a lifer in this city going on nearly 40 years now. It’s quite impressive how much of a morally bankrupt, corporate ass kissing, partisan blow hard, lap dog that guy is. I say this as someone who most certainly doesn’t identify as a conservative/republican. He’s selling out this city for pennie’s on the dollar so he can run for national office after making Richmond NOVA Jr.FYI, word is that the new Richmond PD Chief (person from the West Coast) is already living in metro Richmond. Edwards (whom the troops like and respect) is said to be simply filling in the gap.
The City, of course, announced that they were putting together a team to conduct a Nationwide search for the departing Chief's replacement. They did the same thing with Gerald Smith. He had been promised the job, and was living in both Charlotte & Richmond long before they conducted their "Nationwide search" for him.
The City Police Chief job is hand-picked by the Mayor. As long as Stoney is selecting someone who has promised to be his puppet, I wouldn't expect much in the way of positive change.
Bummer - was hoping you were the new Chief of Police ...By and large, police departments have much better leadership and morale when they promote from within, rather than bring in someone who is not familiar with the jurisdiction, the citizens, and most importantly, the department's personnel. Usually they wind up being political appointees and more concerned with personal goals. Eric English is an exception to this, mainly because as a City of Richmond officer, he worked very closely and is very familiar with Henrico Police.
I hope RPD keeps Rick as their permanent chief, but as Ferrum pointed out, Stoney is all about politics...
Let's predict the next chief in Chesterfield... I'm going with Reggie Brown.Named official police chief today. That means UR Hoops has both Richmond and Henrico covered police wise.
