The Spider win over Toledo was one of Coach Mooney's best coaching efforts. He made the adjustments in game that led to the win. They almost shut down Toledo in the 2nd half. They shut down their 2 best players. The Spiders really showed heart and grit. He was very emotional during the post game press conference. Well done Coach!

Mooney and Hardt should take out a billboard with a picture of both of them wearing sunglasses and Mooney signing his extension with the tag line "The future is bright".

Glad Mooney choked up after the game rather than during the game as usual.

A 1st round NIT win being one of Mooney's "best coaching performances" after 16 seasons at the helm says a lot about Richmond's standing in the world of college basketball.
Yes, zeeter, our resident troll's 10 year highlight for his lover mooney is a first round NIT win. I actually want to be supportive but this type of troll is like spider sports hub on twitter. All is well.

No way. John Beilein always said that his best coaching concurred when his teams were facing impossible odds.

I will credit the kids for gutsy effort for sure, but Mooney not so much. So here is what I think this game and the comments after showed us. 1. Our bench could have contributed significantly more during the year if given the chance. 2. We played with the heavy weight of expectations all year and it weighed us down significantly.

Gilyard said it directly that they played free of that last night and Mooneys emotional response clearly showed that. But here is the thing, it’s the coaches job to free his kids of that and all Mooney did all year was make it worse for them. The substitution pattern is point one. That’s a prime example of coaching tight and it is only one example. As many noted, no enthusiasm on bench prior to tonight. We played tight and without fun or passion most of the year. Go look at Kentucky game and see if we ever got that level of fun back. This is coaching. Especially college coaching. Helping your kids deal with this stuff. But it’s almost impossible for Mooney. With zero expectations on him for all this time, he is oblivious basically. This year with expectations heavy on him for the first time, he too was weighted down and couldn’t overcome and certainly wasn’t ready, willing or able to help his kids.

It’s been decades since the NIT has equated to “tremendous exposure.”
While I agree, with the first four delayed this year, and more people staying at home, I think more saw this game than usual.
(still not a lot)

Here is another fair observation of last night's game.
"My issue continues to be that we get out coached more than not. Watching the game tonight, you could see the momentum swing and we have no answer."

Here is another assessment of the coaches in game adjustments.
"Certainly out coached tonight. Could you imagine TK pulling out a win without 2 starters? Please.
Let’s keep dribbling into the trap at the top of the key for our offense. Let’s watch Richmond go on a 10-0 run before we finally call a timeout. Let’s keep telling Shumate to try to play defense against 2 guys who were 2-3 inches taller and more physical; no need to throw Komagum out there to try something different for a few possessions. I’d love to see a stat on how many second half leads of 8 or more points the Rockets have given up under TK (their coach). The Emporer has no clothes. Shame on us..."

Mooney and his coaches got THIS TEAM to believe in itself. They came out after halftime and really shut down Toledo. This one sums it up nicely.

"Richmond’s defensive in the second half = the difference"

It was a very good win, but I just hate to have the feeling we as a program are stuck in this no mans land with Mooney at this point. He will always win a fair amount of games, either because of scheduling, his style of play, and he does get some good players and good teams from time to time. We are usually a .500 or better team overall - which gives everyone a glimmer of hope. And even in some down years - he seems to finish in the middle of the A10 (2018 - 12 wins total but 9-9 in A10 for 5th place finish). So its never clearly bad enough to get rid of him, but also never clearly good enough (lack of NCAA Appearances) to keep him.

And I think last night showed that. We will have an average team next year. I expect us to finish around .500 and maybe even 6-8 position in A10. Then what? We never have a Fordham type year where it is clear as day a change is needed. And so we keep looking ahead - saying next year will be better, we are so close, future is bright, etc.

Yep. High floor, low ceiling.

Our administration says they care about competing for championships, but it's clear they don't. I don't doubt Mooney really wants to win, and win championships, but again - low ceiling.

I'd hope if we have another season where we wind up in the play-in round of the A10 tournament it would be clear as day a change is needed.

It should already be clear. If it’s not, you don’t care much for history, observation or facts.

Gallipoli, if you haven't learned by now that it's ALWAYS Mooney's fault when a guy misses a shot, makes a turnover, or doesn't pass it in to the open man before 5 seconds elapse, but never his credit when a guy makes a shot, has an assist, or does inbound it properly, you'll never learn.

We are in the NIT, the sole postseason experience the greatest class ever will play in. Save me, the Mooney coached a great game crap. We were playing Toledo.

He is solely in charge of our 11 year NCAA drought, so yeah, it this is all his fault, including the fact that we even playing Toledo in the NIT last night.

Here is one from that board that you don't see very often
"Anybody’s game now with 10 minutes to go. Rockets need to start to match Richmond’s energy & physicality. "
