ODU/EMich

If you read the book, "Death to the BCS," you will see that these bowl games are huge money losers for both schools for the following reasons:

1. You have to purchase a set amount of tickets at list price. If you don't sell your allotment, too bad. Most fans that decide to go to the game do not buy tickets through the school but get them from StubHub or a similar ticket outlet for a lot less than the schools are selling them plus in better seats.
2. Cheerleaders, bands and parents all have to have tickets to get in.
3. The schools pay the cost of travel and lodging.
4. The teams stay where the Bowl tells them to stay because the Bowl gets a kick-back from the hotels.
5. Both teams must be on site a week early to participate in all of the hoopla surrounding the game.
6. Most conferences share the money made on bowl games with a payout of 50% to the participating team and the rest divided equally among the rest of the conference teams.

In the book, they detail the Virginia Tech Bowl game several years ago where Tech lost over $2 million on the game. ODU won't lose that much but for sure they are losing a lot of money on this game.

Read that book when it came out and completely changed my outlook on collegiate athletics. Waste of taxpayer dollars.
