According to the Media Guide, Richmond has been playing football for 137 years (since 1881). Ironically, Trau (post-UVA game) has kicked the ball 137 times out of a UR teammate's hold. In 91% of those placement kicks (125), Trau has scored points for the Spiders. Statistically, Trau ranks as follows in the UR Football Record Book:

#1 in Career FG Accuracy (37/44 - 84%)* *All-Time NCAA D1AA/FCS Career FG Accuracy Record is 82.6%
#1 in Single Season Scoring
(111 Points)
#1 in Single Season Field Goals (23)
#1 in Single Game Field Goals Made (4/4)
#2 in Career Kick Scoring (199 Points w/10 Regular Season Games Remaining)
#6 in All-Time UR Scoring (199 Points)** ** Trails #2 All-Time UR Scorer, Tim Hightower (234), by only 35 points

What a terrible shame that such an awful player holds such a significant place in UR Football's distinguished history!!! Are you hoping that Trau quits? Pretty sure that there is a "Pop Warner" kicker or middle school soccer player that would be a great addition to the team.

P.S. - Wonder if anyone noticed that UVA's placekicker was not the same guy who kicked off (or that a third UVA kicker served as the Hoos' holder)? The Virginia placekicker missed his only short attempt - think Cavalier fans are demanding that he be sent away?

P.S.S. - Can we please stop ripping our players on this board? Our team lost to an FBS opponent with 20 more scholarships, a bunch more beef, and a lot of team speed. Saw the same sort of bitter comments when we got spanked by Maryland several years ago. We made many mistakes... What I care about is how the team adjusts and moves on each week.

BEAT FORDHAM!!!

No one was ripping his ability to kick field goals. We all recognize that he has owned that for the last 3 years. The fact that we expect him to make the chip shot that he missed and is upset when he misses, shows that he had done the work to earn that expectation. But for quite some time, we have been unable to have sustained success on kickoffs because we haven’t had a kicker with the ability to kick it high or deep while watching conference opponents take advantage of that. Until that changes, the moaning of the fans will be directed at Trau whether that is fair or not.

To me, the yelling at the head coach deal is the unacceptable part. The execution was poor but forgivable.

But yes, let's move on and clean it up against Fordham.

I didn't like the exchange either, but I know these guys are competitors and competitors are often very intense. It doesn't take much to set them off. The most important exchange was likely on Sunday. I have confidence in Coach that he knows how to handle the situation and all things were addressed at their next meeting. The exchange will likely cost Griff some extra workouts, but I like his spirit and will not count him out.

From the ESPN broadcast, the yelling was exclusively two coaches double teaming Trau with fingers wagging in Trau's face for a great deal of time -- it didn't look pretty. Whatever Trau's reaction might have been, to the obvious coaches' rage, was not captured on the broadcast.

Let's Beat Fordham.

My comments were directed towards his leg strength or lack of it primarily on kick offs. This is nothing new and 2 years ago when he was All FCS, the transfer from ODU kicked off and took the longer FGs. Whole point is why can we not find a someone who can put ball on KOs deeper?

I was not directing my criticism towards his performance or ability!
My problem was the way he kept arguing with our coach and then throwing his helmet to the ground . Like it or not Coach Huesman is the boss and is to be respected and listened to!
If Trau could channel that anger towards his performance neither Coach or any of us would have a problem with him.
For any of you that are “the one in charge”
would you let a subordinate respond to you like that?

Our seats were right behind where Trau practiced on the sideline kicking into the net. My son and I both thought that his kicking motion looked wrong. He was not kicking through the ball but punching at it like a short jab with no follow through. It almost looked like he was protecting a muscle pull or something.

My comments have been directed at the staff's inability to recruit anyone who can at least sometimes kickoff into the endzone. Yoder came close, but opted to quit with a year to go.

I am a huge Griffin Tray fan and have always been. I have no problem with his emotions on the sidelines, especially this past game, because I didn't see a lot of other emotion (from the players). But if you're going to quote statistics, then be fair about them and don't cherry pick. Trau is very accurate, but he has had 56 kickoff attempts with exactly ONE touchback.

His parents told us that he injured a ligament in his hip during Spring ball from over use and has not fully recovered.

Great Leaders demonstrate respect, and then in return receive respect. IMHO

Does this view suggest our coaches deserve no respect
Secondly Trau’s tantrum has nothing to do with respect, which it appears has none for himself

I'm sensing some animosity towards Russ.
absolutely no animosity towards Coach Huesman, whatsoever. Over use could be everything from not warming up properly before practice and kicking everything hard, to simply practicing too much on your own. His parents did not imply it was coaches fault. My thoughts were they meant he was over doing it.

Plenty of teams have dedicated kickoff guys. Trau has done a fine job of handling the intermediate/short field goals over his career. We need to figure out our kickoff issue...it's costing us tons of field position and it's not a new problem...remember the Maryland game several years ago when their returner set numerous records against us?

Overuse is a curious choice of words for the scenarios you describe. It implies that GT was overused.
Anyway, let's hope all parties have moved forward!

although i miss being at UR games in person, at times am really happy am not there to experience some of this stuff.

I am happy to say Trau rose to the occasion today and did a terrific job. He earned my respect today and showed great character of his own. I may have spoken about him last week negatively but in life our choices we make good or bad make us grow in adversity
Job well done today Griffin

Griffin kicks the ball on each kickoff to a particular location directed by his coach and generally places it where directed.
So was JOC lying yesterday on the pre-game show when he said the coaches want him to put it in the end zone?
