Next UP- JMU

JMU isn't Elon or Rhody. We have to play better if we want to compete. Hopefully a 45 point loss last year provides motivation

Can't have game against Dukes be a shootout. D has to make a huge statement . . . and do it early. Plus, our ball hawks need to come up big and win that TO battle.

JMU is killing Elon. The Dukes are ahead 20-0 at the start of the 2Q. They are running the ball effectively. The RB, Cardon Johnson, has run the ball 12 times for 148 yards and it is still early in the 2Q. We will need to stop the run. It does not look like Lee is much of a passer.

Just how good is JMU? They are beating the stuffing out of Elon. It is now 34-0 with 1 minute left in the 1st half.

Will be there, hoping for it to be a good game but worried a poor offensive performance by us could lead to another last year like game. If D steps up though, will be very interesting. A win all but seals a playoff spot for us

JMU has had a really soft schedule. Even their FBS game was against an awful team. They turn the ball over and are not great on D. If we can run the ball to eat clock and win the turnover battle, I think we have a great chance to win the game. That being said, we are going to have to score touchdowns to win. I expect the Pukes will score some points.

JMU 51, Elon zip. To win next week, the Spiders will have to play their best game of the year---squared. And I believe they will.

Lauletta continues to improve each game, as does the o-line. It's the special teams that bother me,haven't seen improvement there. We will need a mistake free solid performance by the special teams if we are to beat JMU.

JMU is the current top dog in the conference. The schedule has fallen in a way where most of the top 4 teams play each other in the second half. We have a tough row to hoe, 3 of 4 of those games away. I am willing to eat my crow now (predicted 4-7) and I'm hoping to be prove even more pitiful at predictions in the coming weeks. Go Spiders beat the Dukes.

Any remaining questions should start to be answered this week. Looking like 7-4 may still make playoffs

This was my projection before season started. It was posted August 24:

@ Maryland (L) closer than any of us expect 30-24. √
@ Hampton (W) again closer than expect 14-7. √
VMI (W) going with tradition a blowout 38-10. √
Maine (W) this game scares me most. First FCS challenge, we win 24-21. √
Elon (W) another crampy game we win 31-7. √
@ URI (W) they want to prove they belong again but we pull it out in the fourth quarter 24-20. √
@ JMU (L) too much Vad for my taste we lose 31-17
Correction: We pull the upset with a late game rally

Albany (W) Spiders taking frustration of previous week out on these fellows 27-14
@ UNH (W) hey I am looking at this game as our season upset game 28-21
@ Villanova (L) place where we have not faired well 31-21
Correction: Jury still out on Nova, we win

W&M (W) we clicking on all cylinders offensively 24-14

Playoff bound!

This is my story and I am sticking to it.

Two keys to this game we must continue in order to win: takeaways and red zone success. Currently lead CAA in both. Impressive red zone conversion rate of 23 of 24 with 18 TDs. We will need touchdowns not FGs to win Saturday.

umwcah can score points, not sure we can keep up. lee passed well against us last season on the road and can kill you with his running. we can beat every team left on our schedule but every team remaining can beat us as well. just hope we compete better against them than we did last season.

JPO, can we add special teams to your list? So far we have done nothing on kickoff and punt returns, but our opponents have hurt us here. I just think this will be a big key to whoever wins.

Both teams were expected to be on an emotional high before this, the addition of Game Day will put this over the top for both teams. I think the team that controls the emotions will have a big advantage. I remember one year we went to the chicken house and won, we held off a number of challenges from the pukes

This will be a great game. Controlling their run game and vad Lee will be the keys. Make them beat us through the air.

Agree with SpiderRick. Special teams coverage is, as always, a concern. JMU has O edge so D needs to play awesome, O must establish run game so UR can throw, & special teams must not allow short field.

Didn't Vad Lee throw for 400+ yards last year against us? If I remember correctly we held them under 100 rush yards and they killed us through the air. We need to focus on stopping both aspects. Will be tough but I like our chances.

Yep - They passed for 433 net yards, and rushed for 93. While the general thought is that you want to force them out of their strength with the run game, do not sleep on Vad Lee passing the ball.

I believe that the key will be in how our O and D lines play. We must control the line of scrimmage. If the O line can win the battle, we will run effectively and give KL time to find a receiver. If the D line can dominate, they can't run the ball effectively and we put pressure on Lee in the pocket. Must maintain lane discipline, though as Lee can run. Our skill guys are as good as their skill guys. The lines that win will make the difference IMHO.

My recollection was that was the breakout game for Vad as a passer. Until then he was not very accurate, hence we seemed not to adjust well to his new found accuracy

I hate JMU. This just seemed like a good place to get that off my chest. No real reason, yet I could probably come up with several thousand reasons without really trying. Carry on.

Hey Pot - Meet Kettle. Our schedule is stronger than yours and our results are way more impressive. You let Elon score on you?!?!

LOL, you got called out by your own for this stupid post. Over 400 through the air for Vad last year, and our receivers this year are literally 1,000 times better. Good luck.

Hey, that's the spirit! We hate you too! I wrote a post about it here: http://jmusportsblog.com/?p=7294

In all honesty, if this wasn't a rivalry game of the caliber it is, we wouldn't have gotten GameDay, so thanks Spatters. If any of you make it to Hburg, find me on the quad with the Ramsay Bolton Went to UR sign, and I'll share some beer or liquor. This is great for both teams and schools, and from 9-12 we can be friends. After GameDay though, it's back to rivals.

I'll resume my regularly scheduled trolling now...

LINDSAY CZARNIAK > TODD MCSHAY

DirtyDukes I disagree with everything you just said. Except maybe the Lindsay Czarniak thing.

Go Spiders!
