New Spread Offense - What to expect.

I am not sure that I understand the distinction you guys are making with respect to the spread offense. My understanding is that it is not that different from a pro-style offense except for the positioning of a few personnel which may vary with the particular style of the spread offense being utilized.

RH said his goal was to have the QB run about 8 times per game. This along with much more use of the zone read are the primary differences I see from what we utilized under DR. Garrett also employed "a lot of formations and motion." In a spread, are there not just as many eligible receivers and is not passing just as important to what we ran under DR? We certainly have an abundance of talent in receivers. If I understand it correctly, isn't this an offense that will fit the styles of both Kyle and Kevin? If not, please help me understand why it will be different and why it may not necessarily favor their styles of play?

Things have changed vastly in the last several years and I am not sure that I understand the use or implications of the terms now employed to explain various aspects of the game. I read the following article trying to better understand, "Spread vs Pro-style offense: What's the difference?," but I'm not sure which variation RH plans to run and how what he runs may change what we ran under DR or impact Kyle or Kevin.

Many of you are far more au courant than many others on this topic and may be able to provide insight into the changes which we might expect. Please provide your views and insights to help us better understand the differences you think we may expect from the new offense.

Has anyone found a video link to UTC games in the last several years, if so, please share here. Thanks in advance.

You don't think KJ will redshirt next year to be the man in '18 & '19?

Whoever the "changeup" is, I just hope it's not obvious to the entire defense that he's running the ball every time he's in the game.

I guess it's possible. The reality is that KJ is probably better suited for the Huesman offense than Kyle is but you have to cater to Kyle for his Senior Year.

If Floridaspiderfan is who I think he may be, he could give us a nice tutorial if he is so inclined.
A question for you though . Any word on who is going with Danny and not and who is coming with Russ? Not that staying means you get the job either. Russ said oc/D.C. I keep looking at current guys to see if their twitter accounts have changed as well

My understanding is that everyone except Belin, Woods, and Legg are going with Rocco (including Stewart). I would expect Legg to be retained by Huesman. Not sure about others.

Just read an article in the Chattanoogan that RH is have a press conference at 230.
Also mentioned that they thought his son would come to be qb coach...first thing I heard I didn't like. But that's just me.
I also Liked the talent our our current staff better than UTC 's
Again that's just me

I watched Chatty v Citadel and a few other opponents. All out of shotgun, a lot more horizontal run game (WR sweeps, HB sweeps and then cut up field). Relies on good WR blocking with crack-backs on interior defenders - this makes the CB make the tackle whihc is a strong matchup for the offense.

Mostly pistol with at least 3 WR. Still use the TE though, but more swing passes and screens. Interesting to see how the running backs adjust to running out of the gun a lot more, Thompson/Goddall seemed to do well with that. Really only 1 game for Collins so not saying he can't do it just not a lot of game snaps to know.

Doesn't look like they design run the QB that much so I can't see KL struggling with the transition.

Based on performance and position recruits I hate to see Mines go. If he's going?

KL will need to bulk up abit...wish they had a training table to add to the upgrade list (if we ever get any of it)

I hope this offense looks like jmu's and has the same no huddle pace to it. As much as I hate jmu their offense is exciting, opens things up. I don't think any of us would complain about averaging 50 a game.

Wow belin not going with Danny, I was hoping against hope that mines wasn't going.

My understanding is that the UD DL coach was promised to keep his job by the UD AD and Danny agreed. He is the only holdover from the previous staff. I don't know if he was the interim, or the recruiting coordinator , or what. No reflection on Belin, in fact I hope he is retained at UR.

Thanks for update....RH mentioned one of his top guys is getting hired away (not OC or D.C. Which he said are coming) Well I hope belin stays I thought he did a good job... some consensus that woods wood stay and leggs name always pops up to. As to an earlier email I hope RH brings his equipment guy!

It was mentioned on another thread the possibility of Lauletta transferring to Delaware for a graduate year if he's on schedule to graduate from UR next Spring. Plus, UD is near his hometown.

here we go again with fans attempting to tell a successful coach what he should be doing. what is wrong with this picture? let him do his thing, he is the professional, is being paid to win and think he might know at least a tad more than anyone on here. having said that, what the heck is wrong with this guy, should be running a single wing.

Interesting first post.

Yes, I saw that on the other board. Posted by a W&M fan.

I guess it could happen but this passing game is loaded.

My interactions with Belin have always been positive. Comes off as a no nonsense type of guy and his players would run through a wall for him. We gotta do everything we can to keep him to have some familiarity with these kids.

It worries me a little that Huesman's best teams at UTC were when his son was playing there. I don't think it means much but hopefully his OC is good with qb's.

Yes, DL coach Dennis Dottin-Carter was also a co-DC and was the interim HC after Brock got canned.

Every time I think you are getting a grip, this happens again...

We will be just fine, don't worry. He's not going anywhere. But even if he does, we have KJ and six other guys behind him.

If I were Lauletta I'd be out. 3 OC's in three years? Not what you want if you're a QB.

Out to Where? Delaware? A team clearly in a rebuild or stay and be with a playoff team. Also, any OC would be an idiot not to use Kyle's strength's into the system. Sure there will be some changes but Kyle can adapt.

Right. Lauletta is no fool. He'll get noticed a hell of a lot more playing for a national title next year than wallowing in the muck at UD as a senior.

He's handled different OCs pretty well so far and has excelled and improved. No reason he can't do the same thing one more time. Besides, that shows scouts that he has the ability to adapt to different systems and continue to thrive.

Couldn't agree more. I know a guy that played with him at WFU and he told me that Belin was one of the two finest human beings he has ever known. I've never heard a person described in such glowing terms. The kind of guy we need at UR.

UD will be a playoff team if they get good QB play. They return a lot next year, have several good running backs, good o-line and now the best coach in the conference. If Lauletta was to go there they would be a playoff team for sure.

UD won 4 games last year. Delaware St. and Lafayette were two of them. They have a ways to go. I think they need more than a QB. You never know, that's why they play the game.

I am more concerned with Lauletta going to a FBS school like UVA than any FCS.

DR not the best coach in the conference.
