NCAA tournament here we come

Our late opponents are claiming that our fine team is final four bound. As a long suffering spider fan, I would be happy with the post season.
I don't think we should be considered a dark horse final four team at this point, maybe if we come out of the West Virginia game undefeated. Their fans are just trying to rationalize their loss.

Im paraphrasing a alittle bit what gilly said post game "People expect this to be our super bowl, but we expected to win this game, we expected to do this, it was just a bump in the road to where we want to go."
I'm with Jacob. very important win. we needed it. but it sure didn't feel like an upset. we're the better team. they're too young.

we didn't even play our best. played well. didn't shoot nearly as well as we can. sky's the limit. but let's just focus on the next one all season. and wear our masks.

I mean, duh, our Super Bowl is VCU. Just as it is for every team that plays VCU!

Really good freind whose family is about as big a donor at VCU as you can find and he is in denial about what is happening over there. He thinks Rhodes is an elite coach who brings in elite talent. He doesn't miss Marcus Santos Silva and was hyping up a transfer from Coppin St to be a major contributor to this team. He said we would embarrass the A10 this weekend after bragging about beating Utah St. I really really hope that fan base hubris comes back to bite them in the ass hard this year. Going to be interesting to see how they do at home without the crowd and refs helping them out.

VCU certainly looks better already than they were at the end of last year, and that's with all of the newcomers yet to mesh. Baldwin looks like a good PG, though not a scorer yet. Vince Williams somehow found an outside shot. Curry looks solid, and Bones is always dangerous. They're not shooting it well from outside yet (aside from Williams), but their defense looks much improved. I think they'll be decent this year.

That's an honest assessment I've thought as well although they lucked out with those waivers. I'm talking to someone who thinks they're Duke right now though and were chopped liver. They also are playing teams unfamilar with that style of play. I don't expect ball handlers in the A10 to dribble straight into double teams and pickup their dribble like I saw the past few games. They ought to place better than 9th. Depending on how bad the A10 is they could sneak into the top 4 if they can learn to shoot.

Yeah, they played a couple nice games, but I was thinking the same thing about that Coppin transfer. Like damn, how far have they fallen from getting Florida State transfers to this stiff, and trying to project him as some hidden superstar. Yeah ok.

Need to cheer for Kentucky to be a top 25 team. Have some talent, but no true guards I saw. Still a monumental win for Spiders.
Ky. has a long way to go. They were a lot closer to top 100 yesterday than they were to top 10. Expected from the high schoolers early in the season, but still, # 10 was a bad joke.

Kentucky in November with all those freshmen and all our seniors was absolutely PERFECT scheduling.

but I'm worried UK will lose a few more early. I don't see shooters on that team and ball handling was suspect. wins will come from defense and rebounding.

Elite 8 as a floor? Let's not get crazy now.

nope. Dayton saw their likely once in a generation chance to make some serious noise evaporate last season. Injuries aside this team is our chance. If covid ruins everything again then whatever but if there is a tournament we damn well better be in it and we sure as hell better be winning games. I'm not about to wait another ten years for Mooney to get us back to where we belong

I think we'll get there and I think we'll do well, but really good teams get upset all the time in March. I'll root for this team and hope they have great success, but I hate the rhetoric that they owe us fans greatness because we support them. they'll do the best they can.

Let's say we have a great season, finish top 25, and get a 6 seed. This would be our highest seed ever, and means we would play an 11 seed. More often than not, 6 vs. 11 games are close to toss ups, and sometimes Vegas even favors the 11 seed. I just don't see how anyone could have a "we sure as hell better be winning games" if we have a great enough season to get there. Of course, we would all want to win the first tourney game and any games after that, but my goodness, I couldn't imagine being disappointed in our players or coach if they make the dance and don't win a game.

As for Dayton last year, even if they got a 1 seed, and won their first 2 games, they might have played a 4 seed in the sweet 16, which, like a lot of 6 vs. 11 games, could have been nearly a toss up. There are no guarantees in the dance. The goal for us should be to get there, and then, like every other game we play, focus on each tourney game individually, prepare for the opponent the best we can, and go from there.

To me, this year; the goal has to be to make the NCAA tournament. However, with this team, I don't think it is putting too much of an expectation on them to win at least 1 game in the tournament. Yeah, the tournament is all about match-ups and anything can happen in 1 game, but to me that is my expectation.

I'll be happy with a bid to the tourney though, but you know once we get there, players, fans, and coaches are gonna want more than that from this team.
