Matt Reed - 2023 Decommit

Sounds like he wants to play a lot early, and it looks like he will have a much better chance at Tulsa. They went 11-20 last year, and lost a 6'7 guy who averaged 16 a game, and a 6'9 guy who averaged 8 a game. Their top returning guy over 6'3 is a 6'7 guy who averaged under 5 a game last year. So, the path to a lot of early playing time is there for him at Tulsa. We will have Quinn and Bigelow back next year, and Reed would have had to beat out Walz and Noyes just to be a back up to one of them.

Reed's mom is out there tweeting friendlies at Gipe just 17 minutes after her son officially stiffed us. No hard feelings?

Agree from the wording of his commitment tweet, sounds like he changed because of playing time. Not sure how logical that is though. He likely would’ve had a shot to start at the 4 for us next year or be the primary backup at the 4 and 5.

Not to mention - Tulsa appears to be only 4 hours away from his hometown. So that might be a factor as well.

But in the day and age of the transfer portal - keep the lines of communication open for the future. Wish him the best, but if his name appears in the portal and our coaches still believe in him - Gipe and his mom can tweet back and forth all day long.

Checking back in on Reed...he did end up starting for Tulsa last night in their season opening W vs. Central Arkansas. He played 22 minutes and went 3-3 from the field (1-1 from 3), finishing with 8 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 TO's.

Will keep an eye on him to see how his freshman year goes.
