Maine is the best the CAA has

Maine is leading the #2 seed now in the FCS quarter finals. CAA had a bad showing in the opening round but still a perennial 3-4 bid league each year

Maine reminds me of our 2008 Championship team with great defense
and an offense that is not flashy and turns ball over very little. But has
several weapons.

Definitely rooting for Maine this year. They have such a tough situation to overcome. Their coach has done a great job in a situation no one wants to ever be a part of. Hope they can keep it going.

I turned the game on with 12 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. 35 minutes later, after 7 penalties and 4, yes 4 replays and overturned calls, with NO scoring; there was still over 9 minutes left in the 3rd quarter.

At that time I turned the game off...

My favorite memory was back in the 80's when we switched to the Yankee Conference. I talked to one of our guys, he said playing in the Yankee was different. (They had just played Maine.) He said the guys from Maine would help you up, whereas players from schools like Virginia Tech were more likely to stomp on you and kick you. Go Maine.

I watched most of the game - not a good TV game. Happy for our conference that Maine won, but they really didn't look like a good playoff team this deep into the playoffs. Didn't think Weber State looked like much at all. From what I saw, a handful of CAA teams could have easily beaten them, and I don't think it was Maine making WS look bad.

i completely agree. Very sound club. Maine's front 7 controlled the game. It's a ton of travel but i wouldn't be surprised to see them win again next week.

Other takeaway for me is that we can get things turned around quickly. Maine looked unspectacular here, less than a month ago, and they are now in the Final 4.

While Maine may have been unspectacular, I thought they were the most complete team that visited Robins Stadium this year. They soundly beat us. We just turned the ball over a zillion times against JMU, VU and UD.

What's even more impressive (and encouraging) is that they were 4-6 last season.
Our 2008 squad was coming off the Final 4 the year before.

Maine controls the line of scrimmage. If you can do that, you have a real chance to win football games.

Looks like Danny Rocco is coaching Maine today. EWU just taking it to Maine.

And man that red turf still gives me nightmares. I’d be happy to never see it again

EWU does well against the CAA.

Maine overachieved this season, and did rep the CAA well. They were the only CAA team to make even the quarterfinals, much less the semis.

Defense travels except on back to back trips from Maine to the west coast.

There were only two upsets over higher seeded teams from the round of 16 on (14 games). Maine had one of them. The other was #5 over #4 (SDSU/Kennesaw) which wasn't much of an upset at all.

probably getting his exposure to high-end football so that he can get a head job in power five at some point. when DC did not get the boston college job, the athletic director told him was because he had no experience in the top echelon so he went and got it. not all schools think that way but most likely helps to have been involved with how that side works.

Sorry to see him leave

It amazes me that Maine can recurringly have extremely competitive football teams when they sometimes play 2 FBS teams each season, pay their head coach $150,000,are located in the tundra of New England and have woefully inadequate facilities and have 15.25 hours of darkness on the winter solstice(today).Got to be coaching ability and excellent recruiting.Too bad a few benefactors couldn’t kick in to keep this guy coaching up there.

32, think the same way about new hampshire, really no reason they should be any good in football. have no idea how the two coaches compare financially but neither shoud be any good yet are.

At least the Maine coach waited until the season was over but you do wonder how much distraction did his job negotiations hurt their performance in the last game.. Although NDS didn't have any problem with a late season coaching change.
