so are athletic directors already negotiating with agents of coaches? you bet they are, really messing with some team's post season aspirations, something we felt a few years ago. understand that is how the business works and coaches have to look out for themselves and cannot do much about the timing, are a slave to the timing. you know uva will be looking and if tech were smart, they would be looking and cannot understand the extension beamer got last season or the season before, they are not even close to where they were. had dinner with a big hokie donor down here a couple of years ago and he said he needs to go but it is like the bowden/paterno deals, they hate to force it and so it goes on too long.

he has interviewed for numerous head coaching openings with zero offers and at his age, don't think he will be a candidate at tech should they decide to make a change.

Foster has had some issues with nose candy. Not sure if that has prevented him from getting a head coaching job, but it wouldn't shock me if so.

I heard Rich Rodriguez might be the Tech coach in waiting, undermining the Bud Foster promotion.

I don't think BF has a real chance at being HC at Tech. The stories I have heard would seem to be a road block for BF

Big Bud Foster fan but I don't think he's head coaching material. Saw him shot gunning beers at Floydfest a few years back. Not sure if you want that as the face of your program but he sure can coach.

Friend at work here is a big VT fan and said there is no way Foster gets that job. And apparently he knows it too.

Yeah. I randomly had about as good a connection to the Tech program as you could have for a number of years, and evidently Foster's personal life was sort of a mess.

have your own reality tv show type of life mess? how much trouble can you find in blacksburg?

WHOA.......that is taking things to an all together different level Stonewall. having your personal life in shambles and being a child molester might be stretching it.

Yeah, nothing THAT bad. Just pretty much the regular rock star/star athlete/bulletproof celebrity kinda stuff.

It is safe to say you can add Georgia to the list of vacancies. Heck add Georgia Tech as well. A few weeks back we were all sure Richt at Georgia had a trump card. He landed one of the best QB in the nation. He wants to play under Richt. Today talk is he is not worth hanging for. Devil went down to Georgia and found a whole lot of souls to steal yesterday.

really happy that beamer decided this instead of having to go out under other's terms (which this could be but probably not). the prob with all of this is who do you get, uga, tech, both va and ga, usc, both ca and sc? how do you know if the next guy can do it any better? going to be fun to watch the competition for these up and comers. doubt that tech would settle for a member of beamer's staff but funny things happen.

local, would say, NOT A CHANCE but have been wrong before, twice just this morning

"Word" in Charlottesville is lots of Hoo fans would like to see Mike London become the next Hokie coach..............................fwiw......................................

both va flagship programs, sorry umwcah, odu, with openings with multi-million dollar salaries. bad timing for them since there will be so many jobs to fill, could be tough for them to get their first, second or even third choice. butch davis is interesting, a sleaze who will put your program on probation but a winner on the field, maybe tech makes a run at him along with miami. think va should look at golden, fits their mold but a grogh assistant so maybe not. DC moved too soon, if still at bowling green, could have had one of these. the job at wake is so tough even for him.

Clawson always moves too soon. He left UR a year early for a job at Tennessee that lasted 9 months. He could have had a national championship here. His jump from Bowling Green to Wake was also too soon. You can win at UVA, but not at Wake.

I still say Rich Rod leave sunny Tucson for the cold of Blacksburg.

Foster will not be a candidate. If Shane Beamer had gotten the JMU head job two years ago, he may have been in the mix. But you don't give On-The-Job Training in the ACC, having to compete with Jimbo Fisher, Dabo Swinney, etc. Virginia Tech has had some REALLY bad experiences hiring assistant coaches to be head coaches in their basketball program. The next coach won't be an assistant coach from anywhere.

Look for Whit Babcock to at least consider head coaches from other FBS schools who are not happy in their present situations (see Tommy Tuberville, whom Babcock swiped from Texas Tech, and Buzz Williams, who was swiped from Marquette after taking them to the Final 8 and the Sweet 16).

All the coaching candidates have agents; all the agents know who the most desirable candidates are, and the order in which those candidates will be pursued. Schools hire search firms, also - and all the search firms know who the candidates are and in what order. All the search firms know all the coaches' agents. The best two or three candidates will be pursued vigorously and quickly - their agents already know who really wants their clients and in what order. Once the top two or three candidates decide where to go, the others fall into place. Everyone waits for the first coach to be hired, the next two go fast, and then it is anyone's guess. There will be lots of openings at the end of the season - and there are some pretty good young coaches, and a few experienced coaches with excellent records, out there in College Football Land. It is going to be interesting; and you can bet that the talking heads and internet experts are going to eat crow about half the time regarding who goes where.

After that, we wait until after National Signing Day. Then the assistant coaches who have not met expectations in recruiting will begin dropping like flies from the FBS programs. God bless these guys for choosing this as a career path...

Stork, swiping means stealing and don't feel that is what goes on when one hires a coach. it is a two-way street and if a coach is interested in moving on then he becomes a candidate to be hired elsewhere, that is not swiping, that is the process. would love a career path in an arena which i love, these guys do, and one which pays well when you reach a certain level. yes, it is a tough deal, on top one day, in the basement the next week, lots of pressure but also, very good money, most times, guaranteed.
