I didn't notice anything wrong with the pronunciation of bison, but I guess most people pronounce it with an "s" sound?

I grew up in Buffalo (AAA baseball team named the Bisons, yes pluralized with an s), and everybody there pronounces it "bizon" like the NDSU folks. I'm surprised Buffalo wasn't cited in NDSU's study as another area that pronounces it like that.

Have been to Yellowstone many times as well (plenty of bison roaming there), and feel like "bizon" is the prevailing pronunciation there as well.

Merriam Webster online has the pronunciation of the word for the animal either way. With the s sound or the z sound. Obviously the prefer the z sound. For me growing up I always heard it with the harder s sound.

I graduated from FSU.
Fargo girls are not Florida girls for sure.
Although they both have their good and bad points.
In Florida I never had a girl who wanted to go hunting or fishing more than I did.
In ND its pretty common.
