I hope we have a strong game against SF. Akron is dreadful - they have won 3 games since 2018 mid-season. So its not like SF went up against an FBS power. I was really pleased with our d-line in Charlottsville and I think our offense will only get better. But I agree we have to be 3-0 the next 3 games if we want the season to amount to anything.

Bottom line - we don’t win comfortably and Huesman will be feeling the heat (as much heat as UR ever puts on a coach).
 
New Hampshire moved atop the CAA Football standings at 2-0 after holding off UAlbany, 28-23, while the league went 8-2 against non-conference foes on Saturday.

New Hampshire 28, UAlbany 23

Dylan Laube rushed for a career-high 202 yards and three touchdowns on 32 carries to lead New Hampshire (2-0, 2-0 CAA) to a 28-23 conference victory at UAlbany (0-2, 0-1 CAA).

Laube’s effort on the ground helped the Wildcats control the ball for more than 37 minutes. UAlbany’s offense was paced by quarterback Reese Poffenbarger, who was 18-of-27 passing for 264 yards and 2 TD’s. The Great Danes also got 105 rushing yards from Todd Sibley and seven catches for 105 yards and 2 TD’s from tight end Thomas Greaney.

UNH put together a pair of long drives to grab a 14-0 lead in the second quarter as Max Brosmer hit Joey Corcoran with a 2-yard TD pass and Laube found the end zone from two yards out. Laube’s 9-yard TD run midway through the third quarter increased the Wildcats advantage to 21-3, but UAlbany battled back. A 15-yard scoring run by Sibley and a 29-yard TD pass from Poffenbarger to Greaney made it 21-16 with 2:47 remaining in the game. Laube’s third TD of the night from 37 yards out put UNH back up by 12 with 1:49 on the clock. A 10-yard TD from Poffenbarger to Greaney trimmed the deficit to five, but UNH was able to recover an onside kick and nearly run out the clock.

Villanova 38, LIU 21

Fifth-ranked Villanova (2-0) piled up 561 yards of offense, including 365 on the ground, and picked up a 38-21 victory at LIU. DeeWil Barlee ran for a career-high 177 yards and a TD on 18 carries and TD Ayo-Durojaiye added a career-best 109 yards and a TD on 16 attempts to lead the Wildcats’ ground attack.

VU jumped out to a 17-0 second-quarter advantage as Connor Watkins ran for an 11-yard score and hit Dez Boykin with a 60-yard TD pass. LIU pulled with 17-7 at the half, but the Wildcats put the game away in the third quarter as Barlee found the end zone from five yards out and Watkins connected with Rayjoun Pringle on a 14-yard scoring strike.

Watkins finished 7-of-12 passing for 196 yards and 2 TD’s, with Jaaron Hayek making four catches for 120 yards. Shane Hartzell contributed six tackles, a sack and a forced fumble for the VU defense.

Richmond 31, Saint Francis 21

Aaron Banks returned his second interception of the game 35 yards for a touchdown with 1:22 remaining as Richmond (1-1) held off Saint Francis, 31-21.

Quarterback Reece Udinski went 29-of-38 through the air for 248 yards and three touchdowns to pace the Spiders offensively. Savon Smith rushed for a career-high 123 yards on 21 carries and added a receiving touchdown.

After a slow start, Richmond took a 14-6 lead in the second quarter after Udinski hit Smith with a 5-yard TD pass and connected with Aaron Dykes on a 16-yard scoring toss. The Spiders moved on top 24-13 with 10 minutes left as Udinski capped a 91-yard drive with a 15-yard TD pass to Jasiah Williams. SFU pulled within three, but Banks sealed the victory with the pick six.

William & Mary 37, Campbell 21

Freshman Jalen Jones intercepted three passes, including a 33-yard pick six, as 20th-ranked William & Mary (2-0) topped Campbell, 37-21.

The Tribe offense had another big night on the ground with 271 yards. Bronson Yoder ran for a team-high 95 yards and Malachi Imoh added 89 yards and 2 TD’s on only six carries.

W&M jumped out to a 17-0 advantage in the second quarter on a 2-yard TD run by Donavyn Lester and a 10-yard scoring pass from Darius Wilson to Colton Turner. The Camels closed within 17-14 early in the third quarter, but Imoh’s 20-yard TD run and Jones’ 33-yard pick six pushed the Tribe ahead, 31-14. After Campbell got the deficit back within 10, Imoh provided a cushion by breaking loose for a 56-yard TD run in the final seconds of the third period.

Hampton 42, Tuskegee 10

Quarterback Malcolm Mays passed for 163 yards and two TD’s, and also ran for a score, as Hampton (2-0) picked up its second straight win by beating Tuskegee, 42-10. The Pirates’ defense held Tuskegee to just 175 yards, including 26 on the ground, and intercepted three passes.

Wide receiver Jadakis Bonds made five receptions for 122 yards and 2 TD’s and Elijah Burris contributed 104 yards and a TD on the ground. KeShaun Moore recorded a team-high 10 tackles defensively and Ohmante Jenkins tallied five tackles, 3.0 TFL’s and a pair of sacks.

Hampton sprinted out to a 21-0 lead early in the second quarter following scoring runs from Mays and Burris and a 29-yard TD reception by Bonds. Tuskegee got within 28-10 after three quarters, but a 48-yard TD pass from Mays to Bonds with 11:39 to go put the game away.

Elon 26, Wofford 0

Elon (1-1) recorded its first shutout in five years, blanking long-time rival Wofford, 26-0. The Phoenix defense limited the Terriers to 128 yards of total offense and 10 first downs.

Quarterback Matthew McKay had a strong night offensively, completing 18-of-26 passes for 230 yards and three touchdowns. Bryson Daughtry made six receptions for 80 yards and Jackson Parham had a pair of TD catches. Marcus Hillman led the defensive effort with eight tackles, 2.5 TFL’s and a sack.

Skyler Davis got the Elon scoring started by booting a school-record tying 52-yard field goal, and later added a 32-yard FG to extend his streak of consecutive makes to 12. McKay connected with Parham on a 3-yard scoring pass in the second quarter and a 6-yard TD toss in the third period that made it 19-0. He capped the scoring with a 27-yard strike to Jordan Bonner.

Rhode Island 35, Bryant 21

Kasim Hill completed 14-of-20 passes for 290 yards and two touchdowns as 20th-ranked Rhode Island (2-0) beat in-state foe Bryant, 35-21.

The Rams also got big offensive nights from receiver Ed Lee with five catches for 135 yards and a TD and Marques DeShields with 105 yards and a TD on the ground. Defensively, Jake Fire had nine tackles, 2.5 TFL, 1.5 sacks and a forced fumble for URI and A.J. Pena recorded six tackles and 3.5 sacks.

Hill used a pair of big plays in the second quarter to put URI up 20-7, connecting on a 78-yard TD pass to Ed Lee and a 63-yard scoring strike to Kahtero Summers. The Bulldogs closed within six at the half, but TD runs of 16 yards by DeShields in the third quarter and 50 yards by Jaylen Smith in the fourth quarter put the Rams in control.

Delaware 35, Delaware State 9

Nolan Henderson passed for 240 yards and three touchdowns as 10th-ranked Delaware (2-0) rolled past Delaware State, 35-9, in the Route 1 Rivalry.

Thyrick Pitts made seven catches for 94 yards and a TD and Marcus Yarnes ran for a team-best 99 yards, including an 82-yard scoring run in the third quarter. Linebacker Johnny Buchanan had another big night for the Blue Hens’ defense with 15 tackles and a TFL.

After falling behind early, Delaware moved on top for good in the first quarter after Trey Austin blocked a punt that was recovered in the end zone by Quincy Watson. Henderson took over from there, hitting Pitts with an 18-yard TD pass and connecting twice with scoring passes of 7 and 27 yards to tight end Braden Brose.
 
Towson 29, Morgan State 21

Quarterback Tyrrell Pigrome passed for 157 yards and three touchdowns and ran for a team-best 124 yards as Towson (2-0) topped Morgan State, 29-21, in the Battle for Greater Baltimore.

Trailing 14-13 at the half, Pigrome connected with Darian Street on a 20-yard TD pass on the opening drive of the third quarter to put the Tigers ahead. The Bears went back up by one later in the period, but Pigrome found Street again for a 28-yard scoring toss to give Towson a 26-21 advantage. Keegan Vaughan booted a pair of field goals for the Tigers, including a 28-yarder with 6:31 to go.

Mason Woods had six tackles, a sack and an interception for the Towson defense.

Fordham 52, Monmouth 49

In an offensive shootout that featured 1,419 yards and 101 points, Monmouth (0-2) dropped a tough 52-49 decision to Fordham.

Monmouth’s Jaden Shirden rushed for a school-record 299 yards and 2 TD’s on only 12 carries, breaking loose for scoring bursts of 95 and 80 yards. The 299 yards was the 8th-highest total in CAA history. Quarterback Tony Muskett was 14-of-27 passing for 323 yards and 2 TD’s.

Shirden’s 96-yard run in the first quarter put the Hawks ahead 14-7 and a 15-yard TD pass from Muskett to Dre Tucker pushed the MU lead to 26-14 early in the second period. Fordham reeled off 21 unanswered points to go up by nine, but Shirden’s 80-yard burst brought MU within 35-32 with 9:58 left in the third quarter. The Rams went ahead by 10 early in the fourth period, but TD runs of 1 and 24 yards by Monmouth’s Owen Wright put the Hawks up 49-45 with 4:01 remaining. Fordham tallied the game-winning TD with 56 seconds to play.

Colgate 21, Maine 18

A late comeback fell just short as Maine (0-2) was beaten 21-18 by Colgate.

Down 14-3 through three quarters, the Black Bears closed within four on a 6-yard TD run by quarterback Joe Fagnano with 13:24 remaining. A 68-yard Colgate scoring run pushed the margin back to 11, but a 7-yard TD pass from Fagnano to Montigo Moss and a 2-point conversion made it 21-18 with 4:02 to go. Maine drove deep into Colgate territory in the final seconds, but missed a game-tying 47-yard field goal with 25 seconds on the clock.

Fagnano was 25-of-39 passing for 246 yards and a TD, with tight end Shawn Bowman making five catches for 73 yards. Maine’s defense, which held Colgate to 253 total yards and 10 first downs, got a team-high seven tackles from Adrian Otero.
