Lafayette Game Thread - 4pm Sat ESPN+

It may shock many people, or no one, to know that this game was incorrectly listed on the team poster they are giving out at home games as happening today.
ha!...will the fans who show up at the Robins Center tonight receive a free ticket and parking pass to a future game TBD?...and a $10 off coupon to the beer concession?

Go Spiders!

Is Neal injured????
That 2nd half may have been ugliest ever.
It seems very prevalent with Mooney teams now, no killer instinct, foot off the pedal. Saw it against BC and all of these lower teams. Maybe Mooney needs to stay out of the locker room at half?

Thanks I couldn't hear the audio very well. Better than injured.
Mooney actually said in post-game they did not like the bye being the first week of conference play, but it may have worked out for best with Quinn sick and both other centers dinged up, as well as Hunt trying to get healthy. They do not know about Noyes ankle yet.

Dlo not in cast tonight, must be making good progress. MW got injured on fall and did not return to floor, looked to be pretty uncomfortable.

Good to take care of business tonight but agreed with many here, we sure made winning look ugly. That second half was atrocious, including several head scratching turnovers by guys who should know better.

Hopefully Noyes and Walz injuries aren't serious. Also special shout out to Harris for playing probably his best game as a Spider tonight.

Great first half.
Atrocious 2nd half.
Lafayette as bad as that CSUN team from years ago, maybe worse. Hard to remember many worse teams UR has played. And they outscored UR in 2nd half and not just bc of usual last 4m walk on time (walk ons never even played.)
Another game that the takeaway is not a feel good blowout. VMI was one of those, this was not bc the 2nd half was that awful offensively.

Thank goodness the out of conference season is over because maybe we have a chance to watch a decent basketball game in Robins. I am not going to put on rosy glasses looking for positives in these last 2 games. What I saw was a team that lost focus and a coach that seemed to lose control of his players (Buffalo game).

The favorable home environment is going to get a big test next Saturday as the team is going to have to play a full 40 minutes to get off to a 1-0 conference record.

We beat a bunch of bad teams OOC and couldn’t find 1 victory over avg / better teams. Also, our road games are struggles. Pretty soon we’re gonna find out how good we really are or aren’t and if preseason rankings play out. Need to get beyond playing ugly wins as in last 2 home games, and we need to prove can win away from RC. St B will be a good opening conference test.

Mw was nursing a groin injury all game..the fall likely aggravated it.

I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a team miss as many layups as Lafayette did last night. That was ugly

Oh my and we did not have a game or two this OOC schedule that we had the yips on close in shots
that would have made a difference in the game?

Many of you are terrific at identify anything negative, so here are some positives.

1. Our defense was outstanding the whole game.
2. We beat the spread and won by 21 points.

Yes second half was bad, but we had both centers out of the game for the entire second half and gave Tanner and Smith meaningful minutes.

We scored 15 points in the second half against a winless D-1 team. This is 1 game after Mooney was all disappointed when we nearly choked away a huge second half lead against a similarly inept team. I'm glad we got the freshman some PT, but this team is not playing full 40 minutes games and we are now in January.

with conference play set to tip, the wolves are at the door. Nine games against NET Top 100 teams. We are going to sink or swim rapidly.

we looked very good in the 1st half.
we held a really bad team to 38 points ... something nobody else including Cronin could do.
DLo is still out, Quinn was sick, Walz, Soulis and now Noyes are hobbled.
we were not good offensively with the no-post line-up.
our young guys outside of Tyne still haven't made much of their limited opportunities yet.

but I'm not going to complain about a 59-38 win.
now it gets serious. Saturday is big. great time for a bye to get Quinn healthy. clearly need him strong. would love to rest Walz until he's healthy.

Well, it could have been some pre-game excuse queing - but before the game a family member of a starter for Lafayette ( I know Sman will never guess who haha :)) let me know that the Leopards were really banged up and sick - including one starter that was supposed to have an MRI on his knee but didn't get it yet and started and played. So let's slow roll the excuse game.
