Nice article on our new transfer kicker Chereson. Russ gave him a scholarship apparently.

I do wonder how Trau feels after being first team AA last year and preseason AA and All CAA. But I'm guessing Chereson was brought in mainly to kick off and probably long field goals like Seger did last year. After several years of heartache with our kickers, last year was without a doubt our best kicking year ever with field goals and extra points. Even Seger with his injuries was 2/2 in field goals, both over 50 yards.

Trau was money; hope our new coaches realize that. Some of us recall when even an extra point was an adventure. Let the new guy kick off.

It's good to have competition. It makes the starter that much better when being pushed for his job.

The important point is that Trau earned the spot and accolades. His work ethic is probably the best UR has ever seen in a kicker. IMHO, he will be inspired to overcome even more.

Trau has been terrific on placements but his kickoffs, while improved, have not been very deep. Splitting up duties could be a great thing.

Per Coach H this morning, Trau is currently hurt and hasn't yet kicked during camp. Expects him to be able to go lightly in a week or so. Mentioned Cherseon as primary candidate for kicking off deep. Also mentioned Helkowski did not have a good Spring but is punting much better now.

I expect to see big things from big Kieno "Money Guy" Jones this year. He has been grinding all summer and is going to be a great addition to the special teams unit. With a beleaguered Trau and a new and untested grad transfer, Kieno "MoneyTree" Jones could really come into his own, both athletically and personally.

Love Kolby, but curious as to how/why one could justify replacing an FBS kicker from ND and a 1st team FCS All American with a good lineman? Just wondering.....
