Just more indication that linemen can make or break a football team

the line of scrimmage is the key no matter what type of offense or defense you run. have to at least hold your own and if you can dominate it, you will go places.

Recruiting offensive linemen at the FCS level is a coaching staff's hardest job. Being limited with scholarships, you have to find smart, versatile, and dependable players who might not fit the traditional mold or be finished products. I would put an emphasis on offensive linemen who also play basketball and have the frame to bulk up or even converting defensive linemen who have the feet and size to play but not the speed. John Yarbrough is a great example I would use moving forward.

Many times we get that 6'4-6'5 recruit who is mobile and good in HS but has the frame to add
30-40 pounds but needs to redshirt and live in the weight room. I know he is on defense but look
at Kerry Wynn who came from Louisa HS at 6'4 about 190-200lbs, strong as an Ox and quick but needed
more weight and he ended up 260-270 on defensive line and where is Kerry today?

Alum launches scholarship foundation to support hometown

December 10, 2018

The desire to give back is prevalent throughout our Spider Family. Whether it’s through launching a nonprofit or volunteering for local causes, we know Spiders are doing their part to make the world a better place for others.

Kerry Wynn, ’14, represents this trait — a defensive end with the New York Giants, he used his NFL offseason this year to launch a nonprofit with a mission close to his heart. The Why Not Me Foundation will provide scholarships to hardworking students attending his hometown high school in Louisa, Virginia.

“I want them to ask, ‘Why can’t I be the first in my family to go to college?’” Wynn said in a recent article. “I want to know their story and find someone who’s shown great character, who their peers look up to.”

He said he hopes to award the first scholarship to a member of the Class of 2019. We’re so proud of Kerry’s initiative and accomplishments — both on and off the field!
