Joseph Thompson, a 2017 forward out of Bonnabel High School in Kenner, Louisiana, says we've extended an offer.

And it looks like we'll be there this week to watch more...from the Bonnabel coach:

Thompson claimed an offer from Iowa back in July, but recruiting sites aren't mentioning it or even him really.

Perhaps, the University of Iowa was a bit peeved that a kid they just offered a scholarship, didn't know the actual name of the university.

May have to catch a game. Is this kid any good?
I saw a short video clip of Joe in which he ran the floor for a dunk. Young man looks impressive, strong, agile with more than decent hops. Could be the shot blocker that we desperately need.

Mooney visiting down in New Orleans at Bonnabel. Doesn't say who he was looking at, but I think that's Joe.

when i was right out of college and living in columbia, dunleavy was an excellent player for frank mcguire there at usc so he has to be in his 60s now, right? know there are guys older, one in the final four coming here this week but to take over a program at this age?????? tulane must really be hurting

heck, i retired too early if these guys are still going strong. by 62, had been out of working for a while and enjoying free time. more power to them but would not want us to hire a new coach in that age range. yes, am old, still do whatever i want but coaching a D-1 program is a bear

Joseph had been offered by Big 10 Illinois a few months ago. OSC

Tulane is a tough job. Private school with good academics and they are in a league that their opponents accept anyone, generally speaking. That includes non qualifiers. Mike will find it very hard to be successful there.

Looks like Joseph is a 4-star and will be visiting Western Kentucky; new coach there has been adding high level recruits. OSC

Alrighty then...thought we had a good shot with him if the distance from home didn't prove to be too much. We were in early with him and seemed to be pushing hard.

Pretty much sucks, but have a feeling he was not our #1 target. OSC

Were there any visits after he cut it to five?

Anyway, this seems to increase the importance of this coming Friday...

We will lose more than we win in the recruiting business. I'm not going to get too down on missing out on guys where we are probably their best offer. Have to agree with Ulla, that he was probably not our number 1 target (although Ulla says that about everyone after they turned us down).

I can understand not being disappointed losing a guy whose best offer looked to be UR, but it does say something weird about why we don't close those deals. Perhaps we stop pressing or otherwise signal we aren't really interested?

can't land everybody. if we did where would we put them?
for a while, each recruiting miss was painful. I can brush off misses now because the last 5 or 6 commitments plus the level of prospects we're involved with totally eases my mind. we're recruiting very well.

What does South Alabama offer to a prospective recruit? I am not familiar at all with that school.
