JMU Suspensions

It's a shame, but they knew the rules. The fact that so many other students at the school use the stuff for recreational purposes without reprisal is not an excuse. They are held to a higher standard.

Wonder if they would have been suspended if they had been caught drinking alcohol? I also wonder if there would have been suspensions in the other states that have legalized the recreational use of marijuana?

It's a NCAA violation for drugs.

I'm pretty sure that the NCAA doesn't ban alcohol, provided that the player is of legal age and they don't have any alcohol in them as of game day. But the NCAA drug tests are notoriously strict / thorough. It seems like the suspensions here are marijuana related, but having too many cups of coffee before a playoff game or a few energy drinks could cause you to fail an NCAA drug test for caffeine.

Actually, the NCAA does ban alcohol. I looked it up. It also bans caffeine, Adderall, and Ritalin. The latter two drugs, Adderall and Ritalin, are frequently taken by high school and college students for ADHD or ADD. I am not sure how they get to ban a substance required as a medication. I suppose that there may be some workaround if it is prescribed by a physician.

Anyone else think it's stupid to keep this on a banned substances list? Personal opinions on its illicitly aside, It's definently not a performance enhancer.....

This is pretty funny. What a bunch of idiots, is it that hard to not smoke weed for a month so you don't miss postseason games? I heard Houston was pissed and made the guys who got caught clean their lockers out in front of the whole team and apparently they're not letting them back on. Houston seems like a pretty good guy (aside from running the score up on people) a lot different from those two idiots they had before as head coaches.

once caught, by the ncaa i guess, do they leave it to the coaches to punish or do they prohibit the players from playing the next game?
