Might have missed it, but I don't recall seeing his name on here. He's a point guard from John Marshall in Richmond/Team Loaded (Buck's team), 2016 commit, and we apparently are in his final group of options, along with Xavier, UCF, ODU, UNCW and Mount St. Mary's. Not sure we need another guard, but he's interesting anyway. 2 stars.

Yes, I noticed that we are among his options thus far. I would have liked to have him on our team too, but we do have a plethora of guards already. I do like him a lot.

watched a couple videos. true PG who can shoot. ridiculously quick, with a very quick release, can create, and might walk in the gym as a freshman and instantly be the best ball handler we've ever had. he looks that good. "flashy effective". he'd be the true PG backup to Khwan, while the others are more combo guards. and if that's what CM wants ... ok. he's certainly very talented.

but I don't get it. we desperately need size with these 2 spots, in my opinion.

If we weren't so loaded in the backcourt, i'd be really excited about this. That list of finalists is pretty eclectic, which makes me wonder if all the 'offers' are truly offers.

still doesn't make much sense to me, but he looks so good that I'm excited anyway.

We didn't seem to seriously be in the picture after our first two commits filled out needs there, but wanted to note for the record that Jeremy committed to Central Florida a couple of days ago.

This kid has reopened his recruitment and is viewed as one of the top available guards in the mid-Atlantic. I feel like we are pretty well set at guard, but since we offered and were among his final options, it may be worth watching...

Anybody seen any sign of us mentioned with him since his release? We're not on this list:

it's the scenario, but for a position of need. I don't think you over recruit at one position. and from his perspective, if he didn't love us the 1st time I doubt he'd love us now with all our guards. he'll have plenty of options.

Bring as many players on board as we can. Let them battle it out for a spot. Competition in practice will only make us better.

well yeah, but that's not reality. you don't just "bring in" guys. there's a strategy to building a roster. it's not the NFL where you bring in 80 guys and make cuts.

Well said, spiderman. Believe that is the reason we lost interest in him earlier. OSC

I do think you have to be more selective about filling out your roster, so I think we would naturally want to be judicious about not offering for just one year, but for all four.

As it stands, we don't have a PG in the incoming class, but 2 on the roster (3 if Joe Kirby's scholarship ends up standing). We are heavily invested from a recruiting perspective in bringing one in next year, keeping us on having one ready every 2 years to take over.

Similarly, we are going to likely have 4 more spots to fill next year beyond the two commits already verballed. We will be replacing a PG, SF, PF, and a PF/C. I don't dread the idea of getting another Richmond kid to come to UR even if he's not a 4 or 5 type.

we'll bring in a PG next year but I get the feeling DMB will play PG too.
back to Sheppard, or course I'd like him here. if he's interested so am I. but these kids look for the best situation for themselves, and I believe he'll look for a place with fewer guards ahead of him. but who knows.

Don't know what you're counting, but Jesse is a point guard and a good one. OSC

Jesse is a comboguard but yes, he can play point if needed. I don't think CM sees him as a PG, he wouldn't have him and Khwan in the same class in all likelihood. And he did not play any time at PG for us last year.

He's been running drills in Ulla's driveway all summer. Kid has game.
Two things:

1. We should not be counting Joe Kirby on our depth chart.
2. I am counting Jesse on the depth chart, but he is not going to be a starter for us.

I see us having 3 A-10 caliber starting PG's on the team right now (Khwan, SDJ, and DMB). SDJ graduates this year and that leaves us 2, which is more than adequate, but I think if we brought in another quality PG, that DMB could play the 2 and Sherod could play the 3 for us and that would make plenty of time to have a player like Shepherd on the team, splitting time with DMB and Khwan for our guard play.

If that were to happen, I'm not sure I see a lot of time for a player like Jesse though.

when you move DMB to the 2 and Sherod to the 3, we're also adding Godwin and Schneider. lots of talented depth at the 2/3. I want to see DMB at the point before deciding where he belongs.

Good get for ECU. I doubt we were all that interested at this point given our previous commitments at the guard position.
