Just a reminder that La Salle has made the Sweet 16 more recently than we have! And until 8 days ago had made the tournament more recently than we had
Are you implying from that one stat alone UR should be booted out too? If that's the case. I don't get your point other than cherry picking an outlier statistic to go against my argument.
Since that year (La Salle NCAA season included) La Salle was also 138-169 (4-9 vs UR) while UR was 184-141 with as many NCAAs and 3 NITs during that time frame.
If you want to include the whole history of both teams in the A10 La Salle is 355-459 (Joined in 1995-96) with 1 NCAA and NIT appearance and 0 regular season or tournament championships/appearances. UR who joined a full 6 seasons later is 383-300 (2001-02) 4 NCAAS (Possibly 5) and 5 NITS 4 A10 championship appearances with 2 titles. Overall since joining the A10 UR is 20-11 vs. La Salle.
La Salle has posted an overall A10 record of 172-275 while UR has a 192-152 record in 6 less seasons. Richmond has had 5 losing record seasons in the A10, La Salle has 5 in a row and was never above .500 in conference after their S16 appearance. Generally speaking losing to La Salle is a RPI/Net anchor for any team in the conference.
This is of course not just a basketball thing with regards to expansion. Commitment to facilities, successes in other sports also play a role. La Salle adds virtually nothing of value historically and endowment is in the toilet with no major facility upgrades in the work. They dropped 7 sports recently as well. Bottom line, they have been an anchor on this conference for 24 of the 26 seasons they have been in the A10. If they were the lone team in Philly I could tolerate it more.
Have we underperformed at times over the past decade? Absolutely. Do you think the A10 would be happy if we left tomorrow especially if the choice is between us or La Salle? C'mon Ply. The A10 would waive La Salles exit fee if it meant them leaving.
I still find it fascinating that we omit 2 seasons ago as if it never happened, but include that season as a missed NCAA season or failure of a season when admitting to our shortcomings.
