IS THIS THE HELMET

That would be interesting. Looks sharp. Maybe that'll help turn the mojo around.

typically don't like white helmets but this one looks sharp. if we do go that way, hope it is close to this on and not some plain vanilla type....

the tweet I saw was plain white with the red spider on the side

your version 32, is what i am afraid of, looks like texas longhorns, just plain and not worth it if you are going in this direction. sorry if there is a donor involved, we can do a lot better.

It's just my opinion, but I like the helmet Web Spinner showed in the first post more than the plain white with red spider.

Hope we don't pull a jmu in our new white helmets.

if we were going to have a special 125 helmet, which i think is fine, we should have gone first class like the first one above, not come out with some plain deal, just my opinion, winning the game is all that matters.

The first helmet is nice, but looking at pricing, to get those for the team would cost close to $50,000. The second helmet is half the price. It is nice that we at least will have 2 helmets for next season.

You generally get what you pay for. The first one is nice, the second, not so much. Go first class or don't go at all.

We would be buying 85 helmets not 1 at $500.
Nobody buys retail and buying 85 would be at significant discount.

The gate for Saturday should be $300,000:When you add in hot dogs and cokes it's closer to $325,000.

Let's go with Spinner's option.

It was an individual donor who purchased the helmets not the school, and you buy 100 helmets to cover any issues that might occur. The helmet the team got is $300.00 at the discounted price (ex-equipment manager here). With the gate for Saturday you have to take into account all expenses involved with the game, and realize that all proceeds get divided in the athletic department to cover all the sports, so not all the money goes to football. The first option is great, and if anyone wants to give the extra money to cover the cost then maybe it can be done for next year. The kids on the team love the helmet, and that is what matters. That and winning this weekend.

Legg's salary should cover it......in the image, the spider doesn't even fit properly, one of the spider legs is covering a vent

Has our athletic department ever done something new that the majority of supporters liked?

Does the end of the spider's leg really flap in the breeze over the air vent like in the photo?

Put the Spider on both sides and I don't have a problem with the design. I loved the web with the Spider best. For the Seniors if they
like it then that is what is most important vs an old alumni's opinion. Just win!

Yes, the "majority" you are referring to does not count the few that have commented on this message board. This is the same group that said they did not like the new Red Jerseys, which have received nothing but a positive reaction elsewhere. The reaction to the helmet by the players was also nothing but positive.

The decal will have spots that go over small vents on the helmet, yes. This happens on helmets regularly throughout the country, especially in situations like this where the decal is larger than normal.

The decal will be on both sides, so whoever said it is a one sided spider was misinformed. Until you know the full decision making process between the Athletic Department, Donor, Equipment Manager, and Coaching Staff, than you cannot know everything that went into the helmet. When you see it on Saturday, you will think it looks great.

The Spider is on both sides. Where did we get the idea that it's just on one side? Good grief.

I hope we aren't counting on new helmets to incentivize us to play harder? We shouldn't need that. Once again the W&M UR game has high stakes.

The photo only showed one side of the helmet, and for some reason people took that to mean only one Spider. Not sure how that's logical, but it happened

I like the blue helmets, but if the team likes the now ones I'm good for it. I don't really care what they wear if we win.

I really hope the team doesn't need any further motivation.

In addition to the JMU motivational helmets I also remember the time that Duke warmed up in their usual home unis and them came back out for the game dressed out in black.......we one that game too.

I hear we will use the white helmet to reflect the sun and blind our opponents. Seriously with
red logo I will assume we wear red jerseys? In that case a red out in stadium would add to
the colors on the field.

Our fans should be wearing red to every game.

I realize this change is for the kids, not for us old farts. However, I have always liked teams that have one helmet color and stick with it. The teams that change unis and helmets for every game are ridiculous. VA Tech has possibly the worst uniform combinations in all of football with the possible exception of Oregon. I hope that we stick with the basics. JMU was almost 0-3 in their new white helmets. Be who you are, I say. My favorite home uni is the all blue, which we wore a lot during the championship year.

Hate the white helmet. Feel like they ran out to Dick's and bought some cheap helmets and slapped a sticker on them. Looks like the ball on top of a barber shop pole.
