I can't remember ever having so many injuries to our starters.

Golden, sprained ankle
Cayo, sprained ankle
Frances hyper extended knee
Sherod, issue with foot.

Looks like we are getting lucky with upcoming schedule. Hopefully we will not need a lot of minutes from our starters to take care of business against Hampton. We then don't play until Sunday against South Alabama and almost a weeks rest until the following Saturday against Charleston. If we can get everyone healthy, the sky is the limit.

Where are you getting your injury report?

Thanks G, my bad. I did watch the game, and did not hear about Francis injury.

Francis injury was from Vandy game so it hasn’t limited him as far as I know.

We’re banged up but only lost 1 man game to injury so far.

I agree at least they’ve come at a time with some gaps in the schedule upcoming.

Regardless we have no margin for error in any of these remaining ooc games due to the weakness of it. Fortunately the bubble is usually weak too.

This is why you don’t worry about developmental redshirts. There will always be injuries and illnesses and a need for bench players who can contribute.

Francis the hyperextending knee during the Wisconsin game. I believe that is why he had that bad game.
Francis was lights out in the Wisconsin game. Did not have a good game against Auburn. He hurt his knee against Vandy. Guys are going to get banged up throughout the season. As Killer pointed out, we have only had lost 1 player for 1 game, so all in all, not too bad. But hopefully, this slow schedule over the next 2 weeks allows for some healing.

Didn't Blake score 18 of his 19 in the first half of the Wisconsin game.

I’d say there is a difference between being injured and being hurt. Every team has guys who are banged up/hurt (I.e. Cayo, Francis Sherod). I think we only have 1 injury at the moment (Grant).

Hopefully he heals up quick and we have a clean bill of health soon!

Confession - many of us sitting right over the training table with a great view of Cayo getting treatment were so mesmerized that we missed Tyler's dunk.

For the record, it wasn't swollen at all, which I took as good news, but I have zero medical background and did not stay at a Holiday Inn Express.

Also, Jermaine Marrow, the HU guard that dropped 38 on us last year, is out with a thumb injury tomorrow. Frankly, I'd hold Grant out for another game out of an abundance of caution and let him get another full week of healing in.

On a peripherally related note, maybe we should invest in a slightly larger treatment table or minimally, a back pillow so that our non-munchkinesque players aren’t subjected to being propped up against the stadium rails.

fyi, I was mesmerized too, and I’ve never seen that training table used, at least to my recollection.

Noticed that as well. Cayo's ankle might have been better after treatment, but his back was probably killing him.

We pick up a very impressive win yesterday by completely dominating the game after being down by 8 with 4 minutes to go in the 1st half. Over the next 24 minutes we out scored Hampton 60 to 35 despite missing 2 starters both ranked among top 25 conference players by A10Talk. We dominated on both ends of the court and I believe it is a testament to how strong our bench is. We went 8 deep and even Matt played well the 2nd half. With that said the most important thing for or team to have a successful season is to have our starters back to compete against better teams.

Every game matters and it is important we keep moving up all the various ranking list, because it increases our exposure with the NCAA selection committee.

Our team if healthy can get us there. My concern is the ankle injuries to Grant and Cayo. Those injuries do not heal quickly and could take weeks if not longer before the players are back at 100 percent. It is positive we only have one game over the next week and a half. Hopefully, we can win this Sunday with or without both starters, but I sure hope they heal soon.

we got pretty lucky having a weaker opponent like Hampton on the schedule when we were missing Grant and Nathan, and having so many off days. let's get past South Alabama and get healthier.

South Alabama is going to be very tough if GG or Cayo can't play. They seem to be good by looking at their record against decent competition. Gonna be a close one if we are not healthy and imo its a must win for at large hopes.

yeah, the 1 point loss for South Alabama vs Auburn kinda freaks me out.

USA looks to be very good at “bucket & 1”. But fortunately it appears they ignore the 3 point line at both ends of the court.

UR's Grant Golden, Nathan Cayo remain iffy after snagged by hoops' perpetual scourge: ankle sprain

Coaching is responsible for Cayo's injury in my opinion. He shouldn't have been in there for garbage minutes. I was surprised to see that Gilyard was still in game against Hampton with less than 2 minutes to go with the game firmly in hand. I never understand when I see some superstar quarterback like Tom Brady still in the game in the 4th quarter of a game that is 35-7. We might get by with Cayo and Golden out a few games, but not Gilyard.

Lesson learned hopefully.....

Didn't he get injured last minute of the first half against BC?
Did he play more than the third quarter?

Now you could question if he should have returned at all, since he was out the next game.

With the three-point shot , a 20-point lead with three or four minutes left is not what it used to be. I have seen teams go on 9-0 or 12 - 0 runs in about a minute. The last thing you want is to dominate a game, and have it get into single digits with a minute left and have to start making foul shots or risk a possible loss because you sat your starters too soon. Take a look around college basketball these days. Very very few teams sit their starters when up around 20.when there are more than a couple minutes left. Usually, it has to get under a minute.

Looking at the bright side - the injuries came at a good point on our schedule that allows them to get rest and us to still have a good chance of winning. Also it gives about 60 minutes to spread out between guys further down the roster that wouldn't be getting them otherwise.

My main point was, I didn’t see how him being in near the end of the game, caused the injury late in the first half.

I later noticed he didn’t have any stats in the last 10 minutes...

Injuries or not, my point is that irreplaceable starters shouldn't be playing at the end of any game that is already decided because one of the teams has an insurmountable lead. And even mop up minutes are beneficial to bench players.
