It appeared to me, on Twitter, that Liberty has an indoor practice facility.
How long can we go without one! Not only for football, but men's and ladies lacrosse,
women's other field sports, our baseball.
Is this on a master plan anywhere?

This is definitely something we will need at some point down the line but where would we put it?

Aye, there's the rub. We do/will need it but the space planners are a bit crimped.

I think there is area at the opposit end of the stadium from Milhauser- may have to reconfigure
the road.
If the money comes,we'll find a location. Do we have any wealthy, successful ladies to
kick start the fund raising? Title 9 has changed a lot of things, with the exception of
the donors.

We could possibly put one where the side parking lot is directly across from the home side of the stadium. Put those parking spots somewhere else.

Other option might be where the International House is presently. With so many international students, is there practical need for the I House? That said, it would change the dynamics of my parking spot in B5 quite a bit.

Why not combine a parking deck with the top floor being the practice facility all in the lot to the south of the RC? It could solve the increased parking needs, Allow you to enhance the entrances and exits so you could better control game day traffic, the deck could be used for basketball parking also. You could make it large enough that you could add the football locker rooms, training rooms etc to one end and thus have your desired football facility also. Think how cool it would be to have the pregame Spider walk from the football locker rooms across the RC deck, the parking lot and into the entrance gate for all home games.. I would think if designed correctly (large enough) it could be used some as an indoor training facility for other sports also, baseball, lacrosse, track, soccer, etc

Ha! if it took up the entire lot, where would I tailgate before the games? maybe the Pines area? or New Fraternity row?

There was no indoor facility in the last master plan from 2011, but obviously nothing is written in stone. If the desire and $ are there, it could happen.

Ahh yes, the $$$. Which one of our wealthy alumni wants their name to be on campus for decades to
come?

How much would it cost? W&Ms cost $11 million back in '08, so add a few more million on that to get something similar. Not a small chunk of change, considering we spent $28 million on a new stadium.

Where's John McCormick? He was a charter member of the UR lacrosse club in
the sixties. It would be cool to have a McCormick Spice House. :)

why not in the parking deck that would likely hold twice the number of vehicles the current lot holds

now that would definitely be different...out and off of the baking asphalt in hot weather...covered and dry during wet weather etc...however, depending on which deck the elevation could be dangerous to the health of some Spiders fans...

the snowflakes at W&M need to be indoors where it's safe and comfy

I mentioned this a few months back but I think they should look at the expansion/construction of two facilities:

1) Expansion of the current Robins Stadium locker room building to something similar to what W&M has in the Laylock Center. That facilities houses meeting rooms, coaches offices, team and coaches lockers, an athletic training room, weight training rooms, equipment storage areas, and administrative support areas. It is not an indoor practice facility like Liberty and other schools are building.

But I think it would be smart to relocate the Football team and possibly men’s and women’s Lacrosse teams from the RC to the RS. This would free up much needed space in the RC for all of the other programs. They could then move the women’s soccer team to the grass field by the football practice fields (more details below). This could be done without impact the current setup of the track and field area behind the field or the current video board.

2) Build an indoor practice facility to be used by all teams over at the practice fields. Something similar to what UVA built. It could be built into the hill that separates the two upper fields (soccer/lacrosse) and the two lower fields (football). You would need to reconfigure the 2 football fields to go the other direction (same as the soccer/lax fields) and would lose 1 outdoor field as it would become the new indoor field.

The nice thing about this facility is it could be used by all sports during bad weather. It could be configured so that the side of the building facing the soccer field could have permanent stands, press box, and restroom facilities for the women's soccer program. There is enough room over there to build something like this.

If I could figure out how to attach a few pictures, I would attach one of the UVA facility and the adjoining outdoor practice field as well as an aerial shot of the current practice fields.

The configuration would be:
1) Small area for Track and Field practice
2) Natural Grass Outdoor Football Field
3) Indoor Football Field (artificial turf)
4) Natural Grass Soccer Stadium
5) General Practice Field (artificial turf) used by Lacrosse / Soccer / etc.
