These guys have their all and I’m proud of this team for their fight and never giving up. Wasn’t our night tonight but still super proud. New era starts now and I’m counting the days till the season opener! ✊🏼🕷🏀❤️💙LETS GO 🕷🏀

It was a magical journey and I’m so grateful my daughter and I were along for the ride. Truly an honor to watch them all season with the highs and lows. We went to the Bahamas and she met some of the guys and then to watch this. Just wow, what a season. The players were amazing and Coach Mooney did a magnificent job

Ditto that. Six games in 10 days finally caught up with us today, and Providence was hitting everything. A -11 three-pointer differential is tough to overcome. Made the trip up for today and I don’t regret it. Way to represent UR, Spiders!

Spiders fans - congratulations on an awesome season. 4 big wins, A10 Banner, trip to the big dance, a win over a highly rated team. I’d say you all had an amazing season overall. Congratulations.
I do look forward to us beating you next season though to make up for our loss in the tourney - but that just means we have all Summer to lick the wounds!

Two banners buddy!!! Lol.

Well said SDad75. What a run! I knew these guys had this run in them. I was away from here for a couple months because, as someone who has supported the players and coaches throughout, I had no desire to read the garbage that was on here every day. And, I certainly didn't want to post anything because it stinks to get crapped on every time you post something just because you support the team on your own message board. Staying positive on here would only lead to about 20 more negative posts, so it just wasn't worth it, but thank goodness, the guys who mattered, the team and coaches, stayed positive.

But, after this fun ride they gave us, I had to get on here and congratulate the players on such a great run, the seniors on the run and on incredible careers, and the coaches for working their tails off to give the team the best chance to go out on top. And, go out on top they did. A-10 champs and a thrilling 1st round tourney win!! Getting to one tourney is hard, but they would have been to 2 in 3 years had they been able to continue their 24-7 season 2 years ago. THAT is impressive. And, not only so talented and winners on the court, but class acts on and off the court. Thanks, guys, for everything!!

I'm so proud of the team--players, coaches, support personnel, and families, for everything they've done, this season, last year, and the 2019-2020 "what might have been" season. Thanks for being great Spiders and representatives of UR.

This last week, in particular, was magical.

Totally agree PTSUR, it was magical. We will have something to talk about until we come back. Not for long tho!

Will be interesting to see how quickly the page is turned. Lots of open questions - what will the seniors decide to do, what will the Spiders gain/lose from the transfer portal, and what will happen with Mooney’s contract?

Will continue to have lots to discuss on the board. Definitely looking forward to seeing what the identity of the next era will be. Go Spiders!

A few other things that were INCREDIBLY significant this year: we beat VCU in the tourney for the first time ever; we eliminated them from the bubble; we made the NCAA when they didn’t; we won an NCAA game when they didn’t. In short, we surpassed them in almost every key way for basically the first time in more than a decade.

Now let’s build on that.

I’m with you , the sun shines brightly. 🕷🏀
This is the most buzz our program has had in 11 years. Let’s take advantage of it and make it so we don’t have to wait another 11
That’s what I’m talking about!

Other than the billboard that started it all, it’s the only buzz we have had in 11 years.

It will be interesting to see how or if we attack the transfer portal. After that game I am more on board with we need to add athletic bigs. I can see the Lafayette transfer being a year plug in for Golden, especially if Grace moves on. But he is not super athletic either. After our last run I think Mooney went after some top 100 players, missed and plan b wasn't as great. Hopefully can strike while we have some momentum and name recognition again. Doesn't need to be top 100, but that type of talent.

I would take 5 Gilyards and 5 Burtons and see how that goes.

The best part was beating VCU, after the embarrassment of the "We Own Richmond" game, and crushing their dream of dancing. Rambal is the only class act over there.
I liked this against my better judgment Rick! 😂😂. I am also a Rick so I cannot be that bad. Having 2 strong basketball programs in the area only makes both teams better and the rivalry more fun. Y’all got all Summer to enjoy the memories of the last 2 weeks. We got work to do.

Trip to Buffalo was fun and a good experience for the family. Understandable for the team to be worn out after such an impressive 7-day run. Beating VCU, Dayton, Davidson and Iowa in a 7 day stretch is really something else.

I'm appreciative of the seniors that are departing but also looking forward to seeing what a new rotation looks like for next year. A number of young and interesting players in the program.

And yes, as others have said, let's not lets not wait another 11 years for this to happen again, please!

Heading into the A-10 tournament it was very tough to look ahead and see four wins, but the Spiders did it! Then on to The Dance and sending the Iowa Hawkeyes packing in a first round Spider victory! A great exciting fun ending to a Spider basketball season that had our fan base more fired up than it has been in years. Let's build on it and do it again in the 22-23 season! Will miss this team but look forward to next year's team! Go Spiders!

Agree…Next years team will be fairly young for the most part and I think perhaps different in demeanor, but that can be a discussion for another day.(that’s not a slight on this team) We should enjoy what these guys accomplished and what they did for the program…what a ride the last 10 days 🕷🏀

Just finished the ride from Buffalo - great run, amazing last ride for this crew. That was fun, let’s do it again.
Yes it was…we made it home about 5 yesterday. Can’t wait till next year. PS…that stretch by Potomac Mills and Fredericksburg is Satan 😩 but would do it all over again to make that journey with these guys. 🕷🏀

The A10 run and beating iowa brought me back to middle school when we were in the sweet 16. Need that feeling more than once very 11 years, guess I’ll have to wait until I’m 36 for the next one.

Let us know when that "another day" is Dad. I know I'm interested in how the demeanor of this team might change next year from your perspective.

Yesterday was tough. Would have loved to see us give Providence a game. I think as others have stated the amazing run just caught up with us. I will say the seniors, particularly Gilly and Cayo, proved the naysayers wrong (and I include myself in that category).

I was touched by Gilly's comments about how he now feels people will see him as a winner. Gilly gave his all for this program, returned when he didn't have to, all time NCAA steals leader, 2000 point scorer, all time 3 point scorer in UR history. Played 40 minutes every night. Kid was always a winner, period.

It shouldn't had to taken this amazing run for him to say that or feel that way, but yet he did and that is a reflection of the toxicity around our program, that had NOTHING to do with him or his fellow players. In this amazing run, I was really caught by that statement and all that it meant. I'll have to reflect more on that during the offseason.

For now though, Gilly was and is always a winner. What he did in the past 5 days will forever etch his name in Spider lore and will ensure he goes down as one of our all time greatest players in UR history. I think he elevated himself from winner to legend with his performance over the past 5 days. That is my hope for Gilly in how he views his legacy here.

I was just referring to guys like Marcus. His energy is contagious and I think you could see it rub off. Its hard not to get hype watching Marcus on the bench. He brings that same energy on the court as well.

Marcus, Sullivan, Gaitley and the rest were all a huge part of what this team accomplished in the end.

Agreed, Gilly is a winner and legend and should be considered an all time great here. I really appreciate how he has helped my son on and off the court and treated him like family from day 1 and told him as much Sat night at the hotel. It will be tough to fill those shoes and probably can't and the guys that come back will find there own way.

Yes, and it sounds like Gilly was really putting the pressure on himself going into the post season - which makes the performances he had all that much more impressive. All different types of players, but Gilly may have passed both KA's (Atkinson and Anderson) as GOAT pg at RIchmond - in my mind. At least in the conversation and depending on who is debating and how you feel that day a case can be made for GIlly based on those last 5-6 games.
