Lousy 2018 campaign but we have to keep moving to get good young talent into the program and onto the field. I would love to win the final 3 games but i would really like to see as many sophomores and freshman out on the field as possible, without burning their red shirts.

Does anyone have a handle on how many scholarships we have available to fill in February? Personally, i would like to see that class be as big as possible.

With that said and from my count, we have 12 redshirt juniors on Roster. I would like to see at least 8 or 9 of these kids walk on Senior Day. I will certainly get up and clap for them but it's just time.

Billy Caughell is playing his tail off and Jacob Roberson has always been a terrific leader for the team. There may be a couple others that are helpful locker room guys but let's get as many of these Rocco kids as possible moving through the program and onto the real world of paychecks and rent and health insurance.

Russ needs to give himself and his staff the best possible opportunity to be successful for the near and long term. Carve the rot.

The junior class will have to step up the next three games and show that they value this program. They can set the tone and display team leadership to our coaching staff and the underclassmen. Three wins sends our seniors out with another winning season and shows the younger guys that losing is not acceptable as a Spider. Hopefully a lot of Spider Pride is shown by our team and fans to finish this season the right way. We have a great freshman class on our roster and a strong group committed that we need to get signed. The future is bright but the present is important right now.

I agree jpo. I thought our kids played really hard at Elon. Lots of mistakes, but they played hard. I think they have pride, and I wouldn’t be surprised if we won our final 3 games. Let’s get these younger kids reps and carry some momentum into the off-season.

With the new rules can’t a lot of the guys play and still redshirt? Hope we give them the time to get on the field.

I’d defer to the staff but we better be careful on pushing out too many upper classmen. If we have better options than great but if we don’t have bodies we need depth. Give them the talk to figure out if they buy in. If they do, bring them back. If not, thank them for everything and make sure they are set for the next chapter.

Good thoughts, especially the buy in or go aspect

I think all of the freshman class will be able to retain their redshirt due to the new 4 game rule.

I think all of the freshman class will be able to retain their redshirt due to the new 4 game rule.

Dykes, Banks, O'Connor, Funderburk, Harris, Overstreet - have all played 4 already. So we'd have to sit them now if we want to preserve their redshirts.
There is a smattering of freshman who have played less than 4.

I believe Micah Breckenridge is the only freshman to participate in all 8.

Coaches are rotating freshman in 4 game segments. Overstreet got first four and now O'Connor has played 4 games. Will be interesting to see what happens with Dykes at this point. Hoping Howard will get next three games as Elon was his first game action. Anxious to see some of Etheridge and Murray. Think we will also see our two freshman WRs get some snaps in next three games due to injuries. They each have games to play. Plan seems to be to redshirt all except punter.

I saw Foster Singleton started his first game on the O line this week. He will be a good one.

Yeah, I agree. Everybody that was recruited by Rocco needs to leave. Let’s play with 50 guys on the roster next season! I’m all for it!

So what are you guys predicting for this week?

Bye 45 - UR 19 ?
Of course I'd like to see UR end this disappointing season with a three game winning streak. The game against the Indians (Nov. 17th) will be Jimmye's last as HC, and his team will fight hard to send him out a winner.

We have a very real chance to win out and carry some serious momentum into the off season.

Agreed DT. It looked like there were a lot of young players making plays against Elon on offense. It would be nice to get some wins and confidence under Mancuso's belt headed into next season. We get Brissett back next year and have some young RB's (If they can make it through the Spring/Fall camp healthy for once). I'm not sure what to make of the defense. We actually have ends who can get pressure without blitzing but our tackling has been abysmal in the second and third levels. That side of the ball is supposed to be Huesman's specialty and I'll be interested to see if we play better on D down the stretch run coming off the bye week.

Villanova looks like they've quit, and we've shut them out two consecutive seasons. We're coming off a bye.

I expect to see some progress on D in particular.

We won 2 of 3 last year including top 20 road game and the 1 loss was a hard fought close game to #1 team in FCS. That momentum didn't carry over at all. Very difficult to do so from 1 year to next imo. During the season sure. Of course it beats the alternative and always value in winning.

Dykes, O’Conner, Banks and Overstreet all done for the year so they can redshirt. Moore has one game left. All the freshmen except Breckenridge will redshirt per RH.

Makes sense to me. Get them another year - we can use them in 4 years competing for a title.

No Spider on roster has ever experienced a losing season at UR. The remaining season goal is pretty clear...let's not start now. We can do this!

I'm tired of reading posts about the division of Rocco players and slants vs. Huesman players and slants. No matter what side you fall on, we are all Spiders, and we want to win football games. These next three games are very "win able", and I want to send the Seniors and in particular the RS group, #97, #3, #9, #6, #22, #24, #10, on a high note. That group has been the gold standard since arriving on campus and deserve the absolute best.

UR55, not what I meant. Wasn't implying any love/hate for any coach or making a comparison. Just stated a fact. No hidden criticism implied.

All good, KE. I was echoing your point of no Spider on the roster having experienced a losing season. This RS-S group is one of the most winning in program history, and it would be a shame to go out this way.

I look forward to being back in the Brickhouse tomorrow and hope to see everyone there.

The Breckenridge thing was truly out of the original keystone cops. The highlight reel ought to be in black and white. I played it back three times, and by the time I got to the third time I was laughing so hard I went into a coughing spasm.
