Give the HC a chance

Huesman is a very good coach. However, we need additional horses up front. The last time we saw this, I believe, was when London left. He dropped the ball on recruiting Oline talent. It affected us for years.

I don't think Coach Huesman understood the CAA level of power football. It appears he thought speed wins but in the CAA if you can't stop the run you're doomed. I agree we don't yet know how good a coach Huesman is, but I say we can make better evaluation after two more years is enough. As I've said before the play calling is beyond me and our complete inability to run the ball is surprising and frustrating.

The season's not over but we probably need to win out. I've even concerned that we may not have a winning season.

Keep in mind we are competing in a conference with the majority being huge state universities that can dip into a huge pool of walk ons. They have huge fan bases, including alumni. Their tuition is half of what it costs to go to UR. The only private schools besides UR are Elon and Villanova.

So what. Both us and Nova have won national championships in the past 10 years. We can and do win at UR. We have something unique to sell at Richmond. Outstanding academics and championship level football.

Huesman took a UTC team that had NEVER been relevant and made it a top-10 national program. Let's stop with this nonsense about how he doesn't know how to recruit or coach. The transition hasn't gone the way any of us hoped this year, but this year isn't entirely over yet, and there are other years coming.

Many of the state schools in the CAA lack the funding and commitment to truly dominate. Delaware, Albany, Stony Brook and W&M are good examples.

Huesman will get it done. Personnel does not fit his preferred schemes at this point on offense or defense. I think you will see a focus on bigger Defensive Ends that cause havoc and bigger physical defensive backs that will not be exposed in man coverage. Don't forget he already has a freshman All-American OL from Furman sitting out this year. He will find players to execute his systems.

Private schools that have garnered IAA/FCS championships:
Furman (1988)
Richmond (2008)
Villanova (2009)

Only three private schools have won the national title. It is more difficult for private schools to win the title.

Delaware?

Seems they have the funding, an AD committed to football, a coach that so far has quickly turned a crappy team around to a competitive team in one year, and pretty good facilities.

Linebackers are the problem. Our leading tacklers have been linebackers for years. Now we have 2 small ones that can't stop the run or cover receivers. Our 5 man secondary of 5'9" 160lb guys can't stop anything. Maybe we should make the running backs defensive players also.

Looks like we should have another 7 or 8 freshmen in class of 2018. Of the 8 commits we have currently, 4 of them play on the defensive line or linebacker. I'm hoping we see a couple more there, in particular, another defensive tackle to pair with Ray Eldridge.

Asked about the unusual situation regarding Rocco after the game, Huesman said, “He had very little to do with this win, and the same thing with me. Him and I have very little to do with anything that goes on during the course of a game. So I think both of us kind of watched a pretty good game today.”

Really? Very little to do? Perhaps for the next game the head coaches should stay home and watch the game unfold on tv!

Maybe the guy is sick and tired of talking about Rocco. I know I'm sick and tired of listening to it. A disappointing loss on many, many fronts. I'm sure it's not sitting well with Huesman either. For me, I've now added Delaware to my favorite teams to hate/beat. The list is up to 3.

If we're talking football, who is the 3rd?
JMU, Delaware, ?

So if we don't have the personnel to fit his scheme, why doesn't he adjust his scheme to fit the players that he has, instead of continually pounding square pegs into round holes?

Because there is no scheme that hides undersized DEs and LBs and CBs, unless we can play 13 and then I still don't like our chances. May as well build on what you're going to coach.

My point is we don't have the personnel to do what you asked. We can push the deck chairs around with the front 6/7 however you want but it's not going to be a good defense.

I do not like huesman at all. This has been one of the hardest losses I've ever taken this past weekend. It just sucks to see Delaware get better so fast and it just shows the quality of coach that Rocco is even more. UD does not have the talent that we have, but they still win. Why? Because of Danny Rocco. We have the most talented roster in the conference. Ext to jmu but we aren't worth a damn. Why? Because Huesman can't coach worth a sh*t. I don't want to see what this will be like in 3 or 4 years because it is going to be a mess. I don't see how he would be able to recruit given how dumb sounding he is and just how poor a coach he is. I sure as hell wouldn't want to go play for him. UD is gonna be beating us around for a while now and Rocco is going to laugh his a$$ off. Really sucks being a UR fan right now and it will only get worse. Never thought I'd say this but I'm done caring about UR football until we make a change or we get a lot better.

Go home Jr and take some hormones. Rocco does not exactly come across as a Jeopardy contestant, do
you think!

Huesman was the DC for the two best teams the Spiders ever had. It's not as if he forgot what the CAA is like.

That said, winning in the SoCon after ASU and GSo moved to FBS is far easier.

First, I hope VT is serious about not caring and that extends to no longer submitting inane posts. Second, Huesman is here for the future, to state the obvious, but I believe he needs to make staff changes after season. Assistants he brought with him are not what is needed in CAA. Rocco is succeeding because he took CAA caliber staff to UD. Clearly UR needs changes in many assistant positions. To my mind, current staff has done little to make talent better in new system and is incapable of game adjustments. Our overall player talent is better than UD but their coaching talent is far superior to Russ' staff.
