Gilyard Stands Tall

Gilly is a terrific all around player. I have really enjoyed watching most the games he has played as a Spider and look forward to hopefully many more before his Spider days are done.

Couple more things on Gilly.
1. Congratulations to him for setting Richmond's single season 3 point record.
2. 10 steal in the A10 tournament so far, with many at crucial times during the game. He is very disruptive on defense.
3. His ball handling skills our incredible. He is like the Matrix, the just calmly dribbles past VCU's Havoc press or while everyone is banging down low, he dibbles right through every just waiting for the opportunity to pass to the open player.
4. His shooting percentages have increase significantly against A10 teams. He was at 37.3% from 3 before the tournament and 89.1 from the line, with both of those numbers going up if you include the tournament.

Gilyard is doing what he said in his last interview with Philly Bob - playing loose. He is simply playing now and not worrying about expectations, records or anything else. It all comes down to the mental side and that is where this year’s team has had most of its issues. They had too much of the Mooney playing not to lose strategy. Have to show the will to win and to have fun doing it. That is what you don’t see from this super senior class and why I was hoping Marcus Randolph’s positive energy would be contagious.

Exactly, they cut out the stupid Globetrotter stuff and wasting 29 seconds lookkng for a back door cut and played basketball. Golden had a horrible game,, hopefully he shows up tonight.
