Gilly in addition to being one of the top defensive players in college basketball is also an elite point guard. His control of the ball, dribbling and passing are at an elite level. After his 11 assists and 1 turnover performance on Wednesday, he now leads the country in assist to turnover ratio.

Not a surprise. He's been our best player since he got here. One of the best guards in the nation.

it really is a great category to lead country in. Elite O elite D (all time steals leader), Golden who will be 2nd place all time UR scorer, a NBA pick/prospect, two other 1000 pt scorers, another elite defender (Goose), an improving Grace, a home court fan advantage, the most tenured coach in the A10...

no wonder u had us consistently pegged as a top 25 team. Yet we r 16-9 middle of pack A10 team. I have an interesting theory but why do u think that is 80s?

Did he start the night as 4th?

I think that is what the announcers were trying to say.

But it sounded like 4th all time career assists, which seemed odd.

Now trying to look this up, did I see correctly that Sherod leads the NCAA in fewest turnovers per possession?

WHO CARES!!!! A lot of great individual numbers from players on this team but nothing to show for. This is the kind of thing the administration sees and thinks Mooney is doing a great job.

Yes, according to KenPom, Nick leads the country in turnover percentage, and it's not all that close. Part of the reason is that he's very much a spot-up shooter, so he doesn't have a lot of opportunities for turnovers...not dribbling or passing all that much.

His turnover rate is 4.0%. Second is Kohen Thompson of UMES at 5.2%.

clean program, finish over .500, play in the NIT, individual player accolades, blah blah blah.

Lather, rinse, repeat until Moonie and his bank account gets bored.

Who cares. I hate the fact this season has become about individual stats and not our team performing well.
He went 4-14 or something like that last game. He should’ve tried to get his ratio higher by taking less shots.

mostly clean. remember we had to fire a Mooney 4 year top assistant coach for NCAA violations.

Seems a couple of games ago he carried the team
Oh well

Some of these comments are highly disrespectful and show how out of touch some of the people are on this board with the general fan base. Gilly is highly thought of by almost all U of R basketball fans. We should all be supportive of our student athletes.
It is you who are out of touch. The general fan base is disgruntled as hell about the state of the program. I know because I go to most every game, I cheer the team, but I also talk and hear the fans around me talk about their frustrations. I'm sure Section 7, right behind the bench is still a happy go lucky place comprised of family members, former players but walk around and talk with the rest of the fans in the building. We all want change and we want it as soon as the season is over.

You think that just because fans are showing up and cheering the team that this means they are happy with the product. This would be a gross misunderstanding of the sentiment in the building.

What are you talking about? This post is about Gilly and his accomplishments. Please stay on subject. If you want to talk about how much you hate Mooney, there are plenty of other post on that subject you can comment on.

Ridiculous. I love Gilyard and what he brings to the team.
I hate that somebody on this board would write a nonsense post about some stat that makes no difference at all.

I responded directly to your comment.

If you care for the athlete as much as you say, you must recognize how they are getting short changed by the school and its administration. And I don't care about facilities and airplanes. It's about winning. If the academic side of the school was being held back from attaining its lofty ranking by one or two incompetent people somebody over there would do something. I want the school to excel at everything they do and that includes athletics.

Curious, how long have you been around this school either as a student, fan, or (most likely) an employee? I'm willing to bet that your connection to UR has only been during Mooney's tenure and your only knowledge of our athletic history is from archives and clippings.

There are many on this board that have been around Spider athletes since the Tangerine Bowl and the Tarrant years.....you can't understand the level of frustration of someone who has been a Spider faithful follower for 60 years. I was supportive when they gave him the 10 year contract, I thought Mooney was a budding star coach and I wanted Richmond to not let him get away. He has been given free range and much support since, and probably one of the longest leashes ever given a coach.

Now I support Mooney leaving the program.

I would classify his play this season as good to disappointing
Very true. His play is all A-10 at times and in games and at other times he kind of disappears and it is disappointing. Lacking in consistency. If he were consistently great, we probably would be better than 16-9.

he's not shooting as well as he has in the past from 2. but he seems to have found his outside shot recently. he's rebounding at an all-time clip. assisting at an all-time high too. steals are as usual. I just don't think he's the problem. I think your frustrations are misplaced.

his name is literally UR80sfan.

in a discussion about Spiders that played pro ball in our history a few months ago he was literally trying to throw out a list of players from the 80s saying he "didn't know if they played for Mooney or not"

Once again, this is not the topic of the tread, but I will address it anyway.

You must of missed the part where I said the basketball program list these players as going pro excluding NBA "in the history of our program". The point was to show that a majority were during Mooney's tenure

you copy and pasted some list you found online of Spiders that played pro ball and then commented "I not sure which played under Mooney,"

that is like a UNC fan not knowing if Jordan or Worthy played under Roy Williams.

I just thought SpiderRick had a fair question is all.

I think it is fair to be proud of the individual accomplishments while at the same time wishing there were also team accomplishments to be proud of.

I'm also pretty sure that if you asked any of the players, they would rather have the team goals met than their individual records.
