Furman canceled

Why are the women’s team playing, aren’t they practicing in the same arena.
That's not really relevant. It's about direct personal contact, not being in the same faciltiies at different times...that's why they disinfect things.

Yeah, JOC article:

Depending on the outcome of testing through this week among those in Richmond’s program and Virginia Department of Health guidelines that are adjusting, the Spiders may be able to play a game Sunday or Monday before resuming their original schedule with Northern Iowa’s Wednesday visit to the Robins Center.

Furman's next game is also Wednesday, at Cincinnati.

This is so Fen ridiculous. Can u imagine how heartbroken and frustrated the players must be. We are traumatizing and tormenting an entire generation of young people. Sad and crazy!!
they'll be ok. you're being overly dramatic. we sent generations to war. this sucks, but relative to that it's an inconvenience and there's an end in sight.

I disagree. Yes they will survive. This is an unnecessary inconvenience and is ruining once in a lifetime experiences and altering social interaction. You are downplaying the effects it is having on all yourh way too much.
Easy tor you to say... you lived your youth. Dismissing this with such nonchalance is extremely insensitive.

Need elected leaders and business community behaving more maturely and willing to sacrifice more than these kids if we actually wanted this to go through uninterrupted. I still do not understand for the life of me why the NCAA (I mean actually, I do) sat on their hands and didn't institute some sort of mandate allowing only to bus to games for non conference. 13 division I teams in the commonwealth and not one of the schools presidents or ADs came out and suggested publicly, hey, maybe we can all try and play each other and try and contain this thing? Sure we dont get everything we want with this schedule but it would be better than the alternative of what schools are doing now.

Easier said then done obviously, but all of the schools in the state would get a pretty solid non conference schedule in had schools in NC/VA/MD got some sort of scheduling agreement in over this wack a mole crap of adding teams at the last second. UVA spending over 300k to go play a meaningless football game in Tallahassee that ultimately ended up getting cancelled is absolutely bonkers.

When the eventual collapse of collegiate sports come when cable markets unravel and cant deliver the payouts they previously did thanks to streaming, its not going to be pretty.

Does anyone know how long this is in effect? Is it 14 days? Hope we don't lose the opportunity to play West Va, but impacts to practice should be concerning...even with 4 seniors starting.

As is dismissing the deaths of 280,000 Americans, a body count that will surpass the U.S. death count of WWII before it's over.
I totally agree, unless you have someone in your family with the virus, it is not just the numbers. While my son is not in the hospital, I am still concern with his future health. We all have wonder if our number will be called, pray not!

I certainly don't mean to come off as nonchalant. I have kids/young adults. I feel for them. they've being asked to make sacrifices for the greater good. not all are doing it well. mine are. but it's not fair. I get it. you don't get these years back.

but we clearly disagree on what's "unnecessary". these efforts absolutely slow the spread so we can develop a vaccine and save lives. without it, our hospitals would be overrun.

I remain confused about the rules. I am watching the Syracuse - Niagara game and they said a Cuse player tested positive today for the Rona. So why do they still get to play? 🤔

We're arguing about what's worse, breaking your arm or breaking your leg. THEY BOTH SUCK. If those are your only two choices, BOTH RESULTS ARE BAD. The same is true of this virus. There's nothing we can do about that. If we go all in on one approach, bad things will happen to some people. If we go all in on the other approach, bad things will happen to other people. If we try to appease everyone, bad things will happen to some people.

This is a lost year for everyone, in one form or another. We cannot "force" our way out of it. The sooner we all come to grips with that, the better. Life sucks sometimes. You either deal with it or whine about how things aren't going your way. I'm sick of the whining and complaining, from all sides.

they're using wearable wristwatch type devices to track players, and can determine who was in close contact to the positive case.

there was one positive case. 4 others including Buddy Boeheim were traced as being too close (within 6 feet) for too long (over 10 minutes). so they are quarantined.

Who is dismissing the deaths of anyone. Tell me with accuracy and certainty how many lives were saved by lockdowns. People die wood... sorry to be the bearer of bad news. You will die wood. I will die. We cant prevent people from dying, especially those who are most susceptible. The rational that we should stop living to try to prevent people from dying is insane, especially when we are talking about the very elderly or those with pre existing illnesses. And its total bullshit for you to say that businesses and people havent been sacrificing. They are following the law to the word and so are the public and suffering substantially from the consequences. And its still not stopping the spread.

Not all approaches suck. To believe "let them play" SUCKS, you'd need to believe that a bunch of healthy young men playing basketball in an empty arena in Charleston is somehow a threat to someone's 80-year-old mother, real or imagined.
That is the irrationality of it and if that were the case no one should be near anyone at anytime and we should all be individually isolated for the next six months. it's impossible. Madness.

Yes there is nothing we can do about it so we should be trying to live as normally as we can to try to limit the suffering of the masses. People die from illness, it is life. Take precaution, stay home if you have symptoms, wash your hands regularly, and I guess wear a mask.... thats all we can do. Thinking we can now somehow “stop the spread” is ridiculous. Before it was “slow the curve”, now its stop the spread. What horse shit. Like we can somehow completely stop the spread of an infectious illness.

Can we get a donor to buy us some of those? ASAP, like before the WV game?

New slogan - "Stop the Spread" ... of these posts on the basketball board.

Which is why I said absolutely nothing of the sort.

We cant prevent people from dying,

Actually, we can and we do prevent thousands and thousands of people from dying every year, via medicine, vaccines, seat belts, guard rails, speed limits, railroad crossing devices, safer airplanes, anti-smoking campaigns, safety regulations at job sites, colonoscopies and other diagnostic tests, etc.

You forgot canceling basketball games in empty arenas.

That would be pretty awesome. Honestly, I’d rather play one against UConn than two against Charleston and Furman

We may need to find a cupcake to add a win and get some PT for the young guys... in addition to UCONN. This would be sweet though.
