Rolling Stone 'Jackie' ordered to hand over documents in $26million defamation case brought on by fraternity she accused of rape
  • A judge on Monday ordered a former University of Virginia student identified as Jackie to hand over documents pertinent in a defamation case
  • The lawsuit is in relation to a debunked Rolling Stone article which included a story about how Jackie was gang-raped at UVa's Phi Kappa Psi fraternity
  • An investigation later found no evidence to support Jackie's claims and the magazine was forced to retract it
  • The university's chapter of the fraternity is now suing the magazine, it's publishers and the reporter for $26.4million

These false "rape" accusations need to stop. This is in the same vein as the false accusations in the infamous Duke lacrosse case. Fraternities being maligned because of the eagerness of some to paint them as brutes.

Hope the frat wins. This was a terrible job of sourcing by Rolling Stone and they should pay for it, as should the woman who made false claims. The few times a high-profile case like this turns out to be a fraud, it taints all the many more actual, legit rape cases, like presumably many of the 52 reported at Baylor.

the real prob with these types of stories is that they hurt the cases of those women who are assaulted. just needs to stop as do the real assaults.

Spinner, are you suggesting that the lawsuit needs to stop? If so, your comment sounds contradictory to other of your posts. Or, are you suggesting that the reports of women who claim sexual assault need to stop?

If the former, one would think that you would bless this case, not condemn it since you are someone who hates the "mainstream media," represented by at least two of the defendants in this case. How else do we keep them in check? If the latter, it makes no sense at all.

But, in fairness, perhaps you are suggesting that false stories by people or stories created by the media without sufficiently checking their sources before besmirching the reputation of innocent students and their fraternity need to stop, in which case I think everyone would agree without question to your comment. That's would be an elemental observation, and the consequence of these "stories" may be one of the ways that it is stopped.

Isn't the real problem the people that were defamed and falsely accused and the culture that allowed Rolling Stone to think they could get away with it?

Frat members just had their lawsuit reinstated. Hopefully Rolling Stone will go the way of Gawker:
