I look at some of our recruits and wonder, did they or should they have held out for a FBS scholarship?
Is there any board that discusses recruits and if the FCS decision was the best for them? When we play
FBS teams, they win because of depth and a handful of superior players. But for the most part, the FCS and
FBS kids are very much equal.

The difference in scholarships are what really separates the two. More scholarships creates more depth, and also causes better competition during practice which is huge. Guys in FBS are pushed so much more during practice because starters are going up against a scout team that is actually pretty good talent wise. Also starters are constantly having to push themselves even harder because the guys behind them are pushing for playing time, even the backups are trying to hold their spots because the guys behind them are trying to move up the depth chart too. Iron sharpens iron at that level.

Certainly agree roster size is a huge factor. At the individual player level, the major difference I see between FBS and FCS players is not size or strength, it is speed and agility...and in today's football, speed kills.

As far as size a lot of most positions are relatively the same size as far as FCS and FBS. The difference however is in the trenches. Generally offensive and defensive linemen are bigger at the FBS level. I would also say there is a huge difference in special teams, particularly in the kicking game that makes a big difference. Unfortunately we as UR fans know all too well about the kicking game at the fcs level being subpar. I remember back when we could hardly make an extra point.

I remember way back when, when we couldn't kick a touchback....no wait, that's EVERY year
