Was pretty pumped myself when I heard the news. Planned on not commenting but felt that was directed at me....I thought you were done taking about that stuff yourself though?
With that being said I have no problem congratulating him. Having dealt with him myself on several occasions he is a good man and will be good for them. If I recall correctly he’s been in RPD which I have volunteered with and talked Spider hoops with him when he reffed games I work. I look forward to the reforms he plans on bringing to the department.
I wish him the best of luck. I hope the community receives him well.
Have a neighbor who is a retired cop and we were talking the other day - basically said now is a very difficult time to be a cop. Said he keeps in touch with a lot of his old cop friends and the general sentiment now is to do the bare minimum because they feel anything they do - right or wrong will be picked apart by media, videos, news channels, protests, etc. Also said a lot of cops are getting out and retiring early.
I think police work is a two way street between the cops and community they service. They must work together and be on the same page - otherwise it will not work, one side will always be battling the other. Which is where I think we are right now as a country.
I hope Eric can do it - it would be a good sign for the community and the Spiders. And I hope he stays safe.
From what I recall of Eric, seeing him play and around campus, he was the ultimate team guy, glue guy, all around good guy. Congrats to Henrico. I know a state cop in CT, and he echos everything Trap said above. A lot of guys getting out, laying low, and thinks it will be very undesirable job.
