Emmanuel Bandoumel -2018

Really like Emmanuel, would be a great Spider. But hey, this is Ulla speak. Check out the video. Young man is skilled and right athletic. OSC

No shot this kid comes here based on our track record of landing A10+ type level recruits over the last 5+ years

Recruiting for this year's freshman class and next year's has been at a different level than in prior years. We're doing something different, and for two classes, it appears to have worked. It's not so much that we can't land the upper tier talents, but we've just had too many misses historically. Given that he plays with a future Spider, I think we have a better than average shot. We got in on him early.

I hope it stays between LaSalle and Richmond. After one visit to each, there would be no chance of him signing with the Explorers.

I hope that it doesn't stay between LaSalle & Richmond. If those ended up being his only 2 offers (which is not likely), then he is not good enough to lead the Spiders to A-10 victories.

He looks like a talented player. His relationship with Cayo also will not hurt our cause. Hope that Nathan has a fantastic senior year (best of the two) and that he decides to follow Cayo here...

Serious question - if we are offering 2018's and we have no scholarships to give right now, do the coaches know that someone specific will be gone?

Or is it just standard recruiting to have offers out there "just in case"?

Maybe not the best thread to ask this question but something I've wondered.

Fair question...I would expect that like any offer, it's contingent upon a scholarship being open. In the same way that we would make more offers than scholarships we have open in any other year, I think this plays the same way.

As a practical matter, I expect something will change in our roster for 2018.

Good question. It has been asked by others. Bryce Golden, in particular, comes to my mind. And based on what I have heard, I believe that we have a pretty good chance of having him want to join Grant.
While we can all speculate, as 05 said we just need to wait and see how things turn out at the end of the year and beyond, i.e., after we assess the five new recruits entering in 2017.
I cannot imagine that we would not find a way to enroll Bryce should he accept our offer. And I would like for us to add at least one other to that class.

One might point out that Paul will be a fourth year guy next year if his redshirt year is included. Jesse will complete his third year next year and some players graduate after three years as they attend summer school. Just saying that at least those two might leave as UR grads at the end of next year. OSC

This is a good point. I doubt Jesse would be done by then because 3 years is tough even with summer school, but Paul would certainly be graduated by then and it becomes a question if he gets enough time this year/next year to be valuable for a 5th year.

I guess it just feels different to me in this case. Say on a normal year we have 15 offers out for 3 scholarships - those are 3 real and open spots. Those players know that as those 3 spots get filled their option to come here dwindles.

In this case we are making offers based upon a spot that doesn't even exist, at least from the information we have here.

Maybe this is more common than I realize or is not a big deal. Just seems like a weird situation though, and one that might make it difficult to land a recruit with.

You are always recruiting. Stuff happens. Injuries and transfers, I would be concerned if we weren't recruiting actively for 2018. That is 2 years away, I feel pretty confident, that we will have an opening or two, even though right now we don't.

This guy looks like an outstanding prospect and a guy who would fit in VERY nicely to our team. This video is very persuasive and is missing only a good view of his outside shooting and form. The "connection" to Nathan could be important enough to get us a visit and the visit could be enough for a positive outcome.

Some on here don't know it yet, but I agree with 05 that our recruiting "level" has been significantly higher in the last TWO recruiting classes, including the one that most of our fans have not yet seen. Once this season is underway that will be more clear. Also, landing this prospect would help me to stop thinking about Bryce Golden, who I hope will eventually change his mind and transfer to UR. This guy is listed as both a PG and a SF, and he certainly appears to have the kind of versatility that our coaches LOVE.

Hope Nathan can spend some time texting him, sharing how good we will be, and talking him into a visit! Adding this Canadian prospect would certainly send a message to the rest of the A-10, and maybe also to a few skeptics on this board...

Anybody know if we're still recruiting Emmanuel? We're not in need of a SG and I haven't heard specifics about us being on him in quite a while.
